My new X1900XT-X(bad fps)HELP!!:(

Hi,

I wouldn't think that having a higher fps speed than your monitor can display amounts to much, those extra frames get chopped out..... Around 75 fps is the maximum you can see on most monitirs........

regards
Raja

For some reason i think that changing 3D settings in CCC requires a restart to take effect even tho it dosent tell you. After playing ALL last night with full AA full AF and other things full with MEGA fps, i woke up this morning and my fps was back to 50ish.Ive reinstalled drivers left all my CCC options on default and im just using the ingame AA x4 and is running fine.

Grand Prix 4 (racing Sim) doesn't enable AA/AF in my game until I restart the PC (Cat 6.2 CCC) so could be something there - never did it with previous drivers (with "old" Control Panel as well). Would like CP instead of CCC though.

hmmmm so It was a dream after all :D :p

I don't know what planet you're on, but "playable" means just that. Playable. That needs, I guess, above 20fps. Nothing more special than that. "Smooth" might mean about 35fps at all times, if you're demanding one hundred frames per second then you're being very pedantic.

yes i agree, anything late 30s is smooth, what more do you want than smooth? once the mouse goes where u want it to all the time with no jerks you cant top that.

Arguing about what fps defines 'smooth' is like telling someone their favourite colour is red, when actually, they prefer blue.

I find 40fps unpleasantly jerky, 60 fps is nice, 85 fps is nicer still and 100 fps+ is sweet.

Some people are just more sensitive to fps than others.

I turned on AA and AF on BF2 and in wide open scenes with lots of buildings I could see the frame rate drop and then close up I couldnt track movement or aim effectively. I would say set you fps to a level where the minimum wont distract u when things get hairy.

The very time that is critical in a fps is the time you are most likely to get a dip in fps(econd).

Is there a console command for frames per second in BF2?

This is true for TFT monitors, but a lot of hardcore competitive players will be using CRTs, most of which can run at at least 160hz. The OP is playing at 1024x768 which even my 8 year old 17" can run at over 100hz.

I agree 100%. I'm quite demanding with my framerates, even 75fps isn't properly smooth to me - and yet I can accept that some people may be even more demanding than me. If someone said to me that they can tell the difference between 120fps and 240fps, I'd believe them.

A big part of it is what you are used to. In the old days, I used to reckon 50fps was fine, because I hadn't experienced playing at higher framerates for extended periods of time. Once I got used to 75fps, I found 50fps felt very unpleasant. I reckon that most of the people who claim that 35fps is fine played their favourite FPS with constant 100fps/hz+ for a few days, and then had to go back to 35, they'd notice the difference.

Here's a brilliant article, written 5 years ago, which is still far and away the best analysis of the whole FPS debate (be sure to read the followup on the next page too): http://amo.net/NT/02-21-01FPS.html

Absolutely makes no difference what fps you are at if the server is not communicating at that speed. Part of being a good online games player is to know how to minimise the possible effects of lag.

Anyways,, and update on my system. Have just ordered the X1900 Crossfire Edtition so my specs look like this now :)

MSI RD480 Neo2
AMD64 4000+
X1900XT-X + X1900 CF Edition
2GB Geil Dual Channel Ram

Would i be correct in saying my CPU is bottlenecking my system now? lol.
