Right, absolutely loved all the CODs (can`t stop playing 4, it`s mint), Crysis was good, Brothers in Arms was good, Battlefield 1942 is dated and ideally, I wanna not spawn but like to start a mission from the beginning (if that makes sense). Halo (1 and 2) was OK but too cartoony (I`m gonna get shafted for that comment, arent I).

Can`t wait for COD5 but in the meantime, any suggestions more than welcome :D

Far cry 1 is a brilliant game, if you download some mods it can look fantastic. F.E.A.R. if you're wanting some more up to date game. If that is what you asked lol :P

Have you not played Half life 2? I was going to suggest TF2 but by what you've said it'd probably be too cartoony and short missions...

Counter-Strike: Source?

Half Life 2 maybe or Team Fortress 2 is really fun but might not be your scene if you're into realistic shooters.

Left 4 Dead is coming out November should be good. Could check that out.
Far Cry 2 is also due for release soon.

Oh, forgot to mention F.E.A.R. which was great, really enjoyed that :)

Far Cry 1. I didn`t like it but maybe didn`t give it a chance? Seemed like a lot of running around to shoot 2 enemies once in a while :\

Xez and Turtles, I`ll check those out and yes Xez, I don`t like short missions, COD4 is way too short but it`s still the best game I ever played on a PC.

Go easy though fellas, I cut my teeth on Jet-Set Willy and Atic-Atac :D

I disagree with the 2 enemies thing, I've been bombarded with enemies... I am playing it on the hardest difficulty though >_> Realistic for the win...

Don't think TF2 or CSS is any good for you because you sound like you like missions and a linear & scripted gameplay...

I highly recommend :

Half Life 2 ( a must have game, any first person shooter fan must have tryed this, no excuses, it has a great story, has a very fun gameplay and is more than your ordinary shooter, gfx look quite well too ( better than a lot of much newer games)
Half life 2 episodes 1&2 if you liked the original hl2... ( same as half life 2 really, but sequels to the awesome story).
Far Cry ( just awesome, first fight mercenary's in a beautiful tropical environment and later you fight mutants in dark places, the rest of the game is a mix of the 2, it's quite tough even on easy and imo also a must play, since you enjoyed halo I doubt you'll hate the mutants, gfx still look great to this day, it's only 6 euros at retailers here so I'm sure you can get it for 5 quid, just do it !
Portal: It's a first person puzzle game really, you shoot a portal with your portal gun and progress through the game, except (mostly) trolls I haven't found anyone that hated it, all the people that finished it think it's awesome. Imo this game has one of the best humor ever in all games, it has a great story and is a must have played game really, a bit short though but once you get to the last 5 or so test chambers it's just awesome.

And also recommend:

Bioshock: An awesome shooter with a good story, but it's a bit cartoony although beautiful ( it's an underwater city), try the demo first perhaps.
Original Medal of Honor allied assault : Dated gfx but still quite good to play, has good missions.
Doom3/Quake 4: Not the best story's, but it's no ''mp'' game like battlefield, you follow a single player story with missions. Doom 3 is more of a game where you play on your own against mutants etc. Quake 4 is more squad based and less ''dark/scary'.
FEAR: Good gfx, okay ish story but a bit repeative, still very cool to try, make sure to try the demo if there is one...

There are a few more but I'm tired and can't remember em atm :p, but really check out the games I mentioned first :)...

snowdog,

Thanks man, maybe I should persist with FC2, Bioshock I played on the 360, Medal Of Honour ... yes, had a look, looks ***.

Veel bedankt ;)

Edit ... I said great but spelled it g r and the number 8 ??? That`s a mighty profanity filter :D

Obvious one: Crysis Warhead

Appreciated, but not yet. I`ll wait til it`s patched and without probs. I enjoyed Crysis but I was one of the unfortunate ones who suffered the "Last Stand" probs with severe slowdown which spoiled it for me :\

FAIL. It is not humanly possible to complete Far Cry on the hardest difficulty.

I never said I completed it, so don't have to shout fail at me. I got to the forest where you're on the bridges upon the trees. And it is, trial and error. Patience aswell. As you can see I don't have the latter.

Anyone who likes FPS but never played Half Life 2 is a broken, broken human being.

Nope, I'm the only PC Gaming forum browser who likes them - Halo is considered the mortal arch enemy of users browsing here, and invokes a terrible rage in everyone involved. Except you and me.

lol, I missed the 1st comment by the knife bloke, I ain`t broken, just needed the education of it`s existence ;)

Sorry man, Halo is OK at best ... how the hell do u suddenly and un-democratically become the enemy in Halo 2?? Poor storyline ...

Ignoring games already mentioned, and in no particular order I'd recommend the following:

-Medal of Honour: Pacific Assault (underrated)
-Unreal 1 & 2
-Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Vegas 1&2
-Command and Conquer: Renegade (warning: disliked by some, has a great range of weapons and veried level design though)
-Chaser (a mixed bag; some very good level design and intricate but rather bizarre storyline, good weapons, yet rather unfulfilling in places)
-Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy (less frustrating/boring than the more highly regarded Jedi Outcast)
-Deus Ex 1 & 2: (Both excellent games although Invisible War got slated for not being as good as the original; no shame in that!)
-Tribes Vengeance (good if you fancy something a little different, has some great deathmatch-style arena fights mixed in with the rest of the game)
-Serious Sam Gold/2 (fabulous 'fun' shooters, especially in co-op)
-Painkiller (like the above but a bit darker)
-No One Lives Forever 2 (good mix of stealth and humour, unusual in a FPS game)

I'd go along with Hangtime suggestions. Some very good games on there even if they don't come with the next gen graphics.

You need a relatively beefy PC to play the Vegas and Ghost Recon games though. Well I'd say above average anyway cause the games haven't been designed for the PC and have been ported over. Some dodgy fps drops and some missions on my small 7900.

Serious sam 1/2 is a great game for mindless fun. Best experienced on co-op.

I would add AvP 2 to that list as well if you haven't yet played it.

AVP2 defintely a must, had the game since it came out and enjoyed the hell out of it.... lost my disks and cdkeys actually might pick this one up again if there is still a reasonable community for it.

cant beat survival as a marine against aliens ;) muchos fun indeed

They aren't broken, just not "converted". :) ;)

Also I like Halo. :D
