just got my phone this morning and i wanted to know when i turn it on do i need to change settings to NOT install the O2 software? or do i have to do a hard reset and do it then???

Its up to you there are various options and all they do is just install software, or dont install it if you see what i mean...On a whole the 02 software and roms are amoungst the best believe it or not and many people are using there roms on non 02 phones.

From what I've read EVERYONE removes the O2 pap first, unstable and slow apparently. Heres a guide:

Firstly do a hard reset, hold the com button and the voice button, soft reset etc..

Let the O2 Extended rom run and install the MMS and GPRS settings so your phone will be configured then when it gives you the option as to what type of install you require, Opt for the Corporate install and use the passcode 0506

This has worked on my XDA and is nice and quick without the O2 active Junk

Hmm contrary to what ive read, the 02 pap is supposed to be the better of all the options out there.

Oh well try them all i guess!

Have a look on tekguru and xda developers

well i turned on the phone and installed the corprate version and its running quite quick. even when i have like 15 applications running.

only thing i dont like is that when you press the X to close the program it just minimizes it to memory. but other than that i love this phone.

bit hard to use on the bus... trying to press the tiny buttons whilst getting thrown about...

As for the programs minimizing when you click the 'X' you can download a program called 'The Magic Button' which changes its function to 'Close'.

Also SPBPocketPlus has this option, also gives you a nice fancy today screen.

Jim :)

is there anything else i can download to make my phone better? ive downloaded the new Dialer keypad thing and the magic button. anything else?

Not essential but Microsoft theme generator is good.

thanks thats great that like.. lovin the full screen video :D just need to get a MiniSD card so i can get some films converted :D.

dont quite me but you have to convert the mp3 into a wav file and then put that into the windows folder on your device using active sync. That then lets you use the said item as a alarm or message tone. Thats how I did mine anyway and I am using a M600 with WM5. If there is a easier way please let me Know.
You can however using mp3 as a ring tone.

Hope this helps.

kool thanks i'll try that out now

EDIT: cant find a setting for a message tone

EDIT 2: wav files are huge... a 30second clip has become 6.5MB from 615K

EDIT 3: it wont let me use that as a alarm tone.

use a program called Arial audio converter and use the settings 44000 at 16 bit
You may be putting the wav in the wrong folder..on wm5 it is in the windows folder on any other windows os I dont know
As stated before, this works on my M600 which is running wm05.
