I think my faithful dell 2405fpw has started to die, noticed a big patch of clouding and its started to emit a high pitch whine infact its now the loudest component in my rig . So question is what to replace it with? The contenders are dell 2715h, dell 2716dg and the dell 3415 ultrawide and maybe the benq 3200pt. Iam only a casual gamer really, use my pc for browsing web, listening to music, editing photos with lightroom and ps.

Budget from £350 upto £650 for the monitor (budget not really a problem) then i may need to look at a new gfx card also. If i got the 2715 then i might even be able to keep my 670 gtx or maybe go for a 970 or amd 390 didnt want to spend 980ti money really, I play mainly project cars, f1 2015, bf3 bf4 and battlefront. Also the 2715 seems to suffer a lot less problems than the other monitors. The ultrawide might be too wide my desk is only 100cm width. The 27" 16:9 monitors will be the same height but 3" wider than what i have now.

I lterally just installed my Dell Ultra-wide and I love it!

My desk is the same width as yours and the monitor sits fine. It's not as big as you might expect.

I play mainly racing sims as well as photoshopping, browsing etc so very similar to you.

Disappointed with the backlight bleed in the bottom left corner but as always, it's hit and miss on the monitor you get. Personally, It does not bother me.

Unit itself is solid and the stand has plenty of adjustability. I have a 390X on it's way and from all accounts should be able to power most games and provide decent framerates. I'm happy with racing sims hitting 45-50 so it will hopefully be able to handle this easily.

I have raised the windows font size a little to 116% as I'm too far away from the monitor to easily read the system fonts easily. I have two studio monitor speakers on my desk preventing the monitor being any closer but given the choice I would bring it slightly closer. I'm currently around 900mm away and with the new font setting its fine.

Any specific questions, just ask :)

Bit the bullet and bought a dell 3415 ultrawide well i have been lusting after one for a while now. Going to see how my 670 gtx fairs first before looking at gfx cards, even though those evga 980ti look nice.

nice one dan...post a follow up on the comparison between the two will ya

Well after a few hours with the ultrawide Iam over the moon with it games just fill your whole peripheral vision its so immersive.
Picture quality is excellent, no smearing or lag, got a bit of light bleed in 2 corners but nothing to bad. I have got 3 dead pixels in the far top right about an inch from the bezel, I can only see them when I am 6 inches away and looking, they look like dust on the screen from normal viewing distance they are invisible.
Build quality seems excellent only thing I dont like are the touch buttons. Oh and I got a euro plug in the box not a uk one? Overall very happy. :)

After gaming with my gtx 670 and getting 40fps with low/medium settings with no aa i have bit another bullet and ordered a Gigabyte g1 980ti should be a nice step up. :)

Just registered my dell 3415w on dells website entered my service code and it says ship date 16.6.15 remaining warranty 889 days? Shouldnt it be 3years not 2.5 years. I only got it last Tuesday from the jungle.
