So i am stuck with intermittent internet and at best 0.5megabit [56Kilobyte] per second but most of the time, ie anytime but 4am, it hits about 0.1 megabit [13Kilobyte] per second

the only option, if it even is an option, is mobile internet, id like to watch the F1 via sky go, so if sky go stream is 2megbits per second i think i will need a 10GB allowance per month, 2 races and general browsing.

Last year i was with t-mobile and i know i could get HSDPA at my window, so here are my questions.

1. can you get a dongle that will hook up to an aerial outside?

2. is HSDPA the same where ever you get HSDPA? ie if i have an 'H' symbol in town will it be the same speed at my house if i also have an 'H'?

3. do 3, tmobile and orange share the H signal? if not who uses tmobile's H signal?

cheers

You may find it struggles to sustain 2Mbit/s even if you get a decent signal - it varies a lot (i.e. where I am now I get bursts a bit over 4MBit/s on O2 but sustained rates are more like 600Kbit/s and on voda I only get 1.6MBit/s and again sustained throughput is more like 1MBit/s). Some providers may traffic shape you after <x> MB a day to even if you had 10GB monthly limit.

would i have to phone a company to confirm this? or can they even confirm it?

Orange and T-Mobile allow each other customers to "roam" onto the other network.
3's 2G partner is Orange, so if 3 customers dont get a decent 3G signal, it falls back to Orange's 2G network - although I believe this is being slowly turned off.

I get this sort of speed with 3 mobile broadband, allowance is 15GB per month for £15.99, if you need more data allowance you can take out multiple contracts. Should be doable on one contract for what you need.

If you do choose 3 make sure you take out the premium dongle (Huawei E367) I get around twice the speed vs the standard dongle.

Thats useful to know. And fair price, can probably get some cash back via the site i got my phone through.

So you can stream iplayer etc?

Edit.
Just saw the pic, definitly fast enough at your location, is it consistent?

Fortunately it's pretty consistent (highs of 9.5mbit lows around 6mbit) I live quite out in the sticks so it's lucky I'm close to a cell tower, approx 1km. It's easily fast enough for streaming iplayer/youtube etc. If you go on to the 3 website there is a coverage checker via postcode.

Says I can get mobile broadband, but not anything about the speed.
