Howdy,

I wanted to post a screenie of my overclock with the not so overclockable E6600 batch of 7639A204 for your opinions and advice as if I can get anymore out of it.

When I bought my new machine the other day, I REALLY wanted to get 3.5ghz out of my E6600, but once I reached 3.4ghz I was having a nightmare getting to 3.5ghz. I got Orthos running for 3hrs stable at 3.5ghz but that was on 1.525 vcore, and I was not happy with that voltage being so high, even thou my temps where at 56c max on full load! I was then told by my fellow OCuK members that I had the not so overclockable batch of E6600's, then realised why I was having so many troubles. So I am happy with 3.4ghz

So I have opted to go to 3.4ghz at 1.475v vcore (any lower and orthos dies) so I can keep my vcore below 1.5 as that scares me going that high.

I left orthos running whilst I was down the boozer (bear with me as I am finding it a bit hard to type at the moment... macs and their keyboards combined with beer really dont go well together!) and I have a screenie of all my stats that I wanted to post.

I really want your opinion on these stats, are there any probs with it? Can I change sumin to maybe get 3.5ghz below 1.5v vcore?

Firstly, my spec is:

ASUS P5N-E SLi
C2D E6600 w\ Artic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro
GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400C4 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2
Corsair HX 620w PSU
BFG 8800 GTX OC

My BIOS settings are:

CPU: 1511x9 @ 1.475v Vcore
RAM: 4-4-4-12 2T @ 850mhz (in the BIOS)

Heres a screenie of my clock so far:

I'm gonna leave this running for many hours more to confirm stability, but do you see any issues with it? Or shall I leave it at this? I don't want to burn out my CPU, but running this FSB at 1.4v Vcore, Orthos dies about 1hr 40mins in!

Sorry if this post sounds weird, I am a bit "merry" atm :D

1Ghz overclock. :) I'd be happy with that. :D

I can't see anything atm which I'd change, although I'm an AMD man, not Intel so it looks slightly different. Temps look good as well (46ºC and 45ºC).

I was a AMD man with my X2 4400+ only recently, but the intels kick the new AM2 ass's so I went for the Intels!

Yeah the temps are really good.. it does reach 51c at times, but it doesnt exceed that! I have 4 120mm fans and 1 200mm fan in my case... might welcome the dust, but it does keep it cool!

Why do you need to get to 3.5ghz is 3.4ghz not good? I think so!! 1ghz overclock! some chips are winners others are not..

I dunno, I just had my heart set on 3.5ghz when I got the CPU thats all. But now I know I have the not so good batch I am happy with 3.4ghz!

I would stick to whats stable and you feel happy with. 3.4ghz is a very good overclock!

Yeah Im gonna stick with this... seems stable so far.

Phil, can I ask why you have your E6300 at stock?

Because i was having problems with my grapics card. Got that fixed by buying a 8800 and i come back from holiday and the DS4 has blown up. So i have to wait till tuesday then RMA it back to **** when i get a new one or a fixed one i will 100% overclock it. I have overclocked others aswell..

thats the reason why at the min. When the new one comes i will deffo be overclocking it!

tbh, stick with what you are safe with, intel say they are good up to 1.55v, i've booted mine on 1.65 (albeit under water)

mine is at 3712.5mhz (412.5x9) at the moment, and thats at 1.55v under a zalman cnps9500 temps are higher than yours idle  and hit 70 loaded double  but i am fine with it, so i keep it that way :)

Ahh ok, so some people are running theirs at 1.5v+... I mean I got 3hrs from orthos on 1.525v at 3.5ghz so that seemed pretty stable, although I would have to run it for 8hrs at least til I could say that for sure. As I say I was reaching 57c max on that, although it was at 56c more than 57c. I was prepared to go to 60c temps wise, but I wasn;t really prepared to go other 1.5v vcore, so thats why I wimped out and went back to 3.4ghz.

So I am at 3.4ghz on 1.475v maxing at 52c full load... thats good for me, whats another 100mhz huh :)

Just a shame I happened to get the dodgy batch, but you can't have everything!

with that clock... that aint dodgy, you always get some good clockers.. even in the dodgyest of batches :) at least you have a good one (there are some that wont hit 3ghz....) i've had one that wont do much over 3.2... not without MASSIVE voltage increases...

Suppose ya right, was really annoyed during the clock process cos it was so hard to get to 3.5ghz, and when I saw people reaching 3.8ghz at 1.45ov I was like how the hell did they acheive that! then I found out I had the not so good batch and it made more sense.

I suppose your right, you get some good clockers with bad batches, just like you get rubbish clockers with good batches!

If I never saw other peoples clocks for the E6600 I would have been chuffed to bits with 3.4ghz, seeing I only got my X2 4400+ to 2.6ghz on my previous rig. But whhen you see what others have, you always want it right :)

heh, the thread i was about to quote is actually in your sig ;) imagine how ****** off you'd be if you had one that wouldn't prime at 2.7....

I'm annoyed that some ppl can get e6300's to 4ghz on air :/ and then theres us lot with the cpu thats twice the price not getting that... hehe :D

cant believe u hit 42c full with artic 7!!!! congratulations

Thank you, I've just finished orthos now, it ran for 18hrs 50mins without a problem, thats stable in my eyes! I looked at the temps every now and then and they seemed to stay around 46c, but did hit 52c soometimes.

The Antec Nine hundred is a great case for cooling, and I bunged another 120mm fan on the side panel too, so I have 4x120mm and 1x200mm fan. I'll go water one day, just still worried that they will burst and leave my componants knackered :)

Intel says maximum allowed cpu Vcore is 1.35V :D

I posted exactly the same thing at http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17714549 and WJA96 responded with:

No, it will run 24/7 @ 2.4GHz at 1.35V. That's what it's rated at. Overclocking voids your warranty and you do it at your own risk. That's the first thing the stickies say. If you can't afford to blow the CPU up, stop overclocking right now. You're looking at a 50% overclock. That's extreme on air cooling. You can probably do 3GHz on that CPU at 1.35V, and if you're worried, then take it back to something closer to stock, it'll still be very fast.

I've read in a few places here that the max you can go with on your C2D is 1.55v, but I just wasn't happy being over 1.5v, so I stuck with 1.475v

I had set my heart on 3.6GHz and an FSB of over 400MHz!
But, after struggling with heat, even though I am on water (I have a dished top on my CPU and need to lap it) I settled on 3.4GHz.
At the end of the day its a free 1GHz more on stock its quicker than the top of the range chip on stock settings!
Also I dont think the P5W-DH is good for over 400MHz, so I may be changing the mobo to something a bit better soon!
Thinking 680i, which would also let me run the latest drivers for SLI instead of the hacked ones I have!
