my first time overclocking, thought id go slow to start with.

how does this look, temps, voltages?

You need to take the screenshot while IBT is halfway through the last run, to see the load vcore. Then crop the image and make it larger so we can see the figures ;)

Yeah they are pretty high for 4.2ghz @ 1.272v. I was under the impression the tranquillo was a pretty decent cooler, it should definitely cope with that speed and voltage.

what case are you in and how is your airflow setup?

i did have trouble seating the bugger. maybe its not sat 100%

got the corsair 500r.

before i overclocked my temps were at mid 20s low 30s

but, as i will eventually reseat the heatsink, are the temps fine? not gona cause any probs?

is it worth trying lower voltage?

At the moment its fine, it probably won't break past 55c while gaming. I wouldn't worry too much, but at the moment you don't have much headroom for a higher clock speed.

Definitely worth a reseat, temps should be much much better in a 500R (great case btw).

You could try lower the voltages, though the current voltages aren't hugely OTT. 1.27v is probably around average for 4.2ghz, many may manage less, some more, depends on the chip.

Looking back at an old screenshot 4.2GHz took 1.20v and max temp was 55C. Might be worthe trying to lower vcore first.

Perhaps you've got a little bit too much TIM applied, could be worth re seating, just use about a grain of rice sized paste.

ill try lowering vcore first and see if its stable and see what temps i get, if not. reseat it is!

how easy is it too remove while mobo is in case, cba taking it all apart!

Limiting your self to 70c is a little drastic IMO. TJmax is 98c, start getting worried if it heads towards 80c.

I would not say drastic, I mean my 2500k at 4.6 will not go over 70 with stress tests. So if his smaller overclock is already going over 70 then he needs to cut back big time. Also 70c is a good spot to aim for. Why run hotter then it needs to be

Easy, 500R has a huge cut out for the CPU backplate, a reseat should be a walk in the park.

Doesn't matter about the back plate this will stay in place after taking the cooler off, the most awkward part is getting the spring screws back on with the case in the way.

that reminds me! as i said i had problems installing it, i ended up seating it with only 2 of the springs on the screws as i couldnt for the life of me get them on the other 2!

would this actually cause problems?

Your temps are a little high but not of any concern. The i5 is a hot running Cpu and anything under 80.c is going to be perfectly fine.
I run mine @ 4.6ghz with 1.35V and it hits a max of around 74.c under heavy load although I run a fairly relaxed fan profile to keep things quite.
It might be worth trying to correctly mount your cpu cooler and seeing how it affects the temps.
