Hello.

I received my new z87 gigabyte g1 sniper 5 board and i7 4770k haswell cpu couple days ago and yesterday i finely got round to install them.

But i have notised that when im overclocking my cpu to 4.5/4.6 ghz in bios windows is not picking it up in control panel / systems.

It just says I7 4770k 3.5Ghz @ 3.5Ghz ???

But when checking cpuid and real temp ect say im at 4.5 ect?

Does anyone know what could be making windows 8 doing this?

I been reading some thing about the EIST fuction in bios?

Regards
Kyle

its normal, you can check your overclock in cpu-z program while stressing the cpu

sometimes windows wont pick up the actual cpu oc speed

im not sure tbh,out of all the pc's ive had only my 3770k/windows 8 showed the correct overclock speed in control panel

my z68 doesn't or any other ive owned, there might be a way if you google it but I don't know of any

I was under the impression this was normal. Windows sees the chip at it's stock (base) setting.

My 3770k appears in Control Panel as 3.5Ghz. Same in CPUZ (towards the top of the screen) but below by 'Clock Speed' it says 4000mhz :)

Thats is strange to me because my old build was a x58 and my i7 960 @ 4.2 allways showed in the control panel / systems in win 7 and 8, my build before that allso showed and my friends pc i helped build have all have showed this is first time iv seen this happen to my own build which is why iv have asked on here.

Windows assumes a default multi.

On your X58 you most likely overclocked using the stock multi and raised the FSB.
Windows would then report your overclocked speed.

On SB/IB etc overclocking is done by raising the multi, in this case windows would show stock speed,
