I have now almost finished my initial overclock - just one last piece of advice need.

My components are

Asus A8N-E
Athlon64 3700+ (SD)
Geil Value RAM (2 x 1GB)
Arctic Freezer 64 Pro

This is how it is currntly running

CPU - 270 x 10 = 2.7GHz (voltage = stock)
RAM - 225MHz (333 divider) - timings 2.5-3-3-7 1T (voltage = 2.65)
HyperThread - 3x = 810MHz

The CPU will go higher but I'm going to leave it for a while - not sure MoBo will do much above 270 anyway from what I've read.

My question is about HyperThreading. I've got the multi on x3 (810) at the moment. I could put it on x4 (1080) but I'm not sure how high above 1000 you can go.

(i) Do you think 1080 is okay for HT
(ii) Is it safe to just try it or is there a danger of permanent damage
(iii) What about running at 810 - does it matter - what impact is it likely to have.

Cheers,

Nigel

I might try pushing it higher - I know the CPU runs at 2.75GHz (11 x 250), stable on stock volts because that's what I tried first.

The reason I'm running as I am at the moment is as a compromise between CPU and RAM performance.

The actual 333 divider is determined by the CPU muliplier ...

at CPU = x11, the 333 divider is 11:14
at CPU = x10, the 333 divider is 10:12

The MoBo's limit is about 270 which give's max mem speeds of

225Mhz on x10
212MHz on x11

My RAM isn't fast enough to run a 400 (1:1) divider.

So

at x11 best acheivable is
CPU = 2.970 (theoretical - not tried this high)
RAM = 212

at x10 best acheivable (which I'm running at the moment) is
CPU = 2.7
RAM = 225

I guess the debate is which of these is the better overclock.

Cheers,

Nigel
