my PC doesnt trust microsoft security essentials so i cant run it

ok, so its an anti virus question not in the anti virus thread, but i need a pretty darned quick response because right now i cant even run windows security essentials because its identity cant be verified.

ive had the program a few days without any problems, but i started off a full scan of my computer, went away to mow the lawn, and saw that the scan had stopped, windows security essentials had turned off completely and wouldnt turn on because of the message i got in the title.

if someone can find me a solution to this problem i would be very grateful because only sitting behind windows defender is not a happy place to be.

im currently doing a full scan of the PC with malwarebytes, as well as having windows defender as a temporary AV program

Can you just confirm whether you are running "windows" security essentials or "microsoft" security essentials?

ooh, forgot there was a difference. its microsoft security essentials.

i tried to do the old uninstall then reinstall, but its not uninstalling for some reason. i click 'yes make changes to my computer' or whatever the message is that comes up, but sod all happens

*edit*
i tried installing another copy of it, but that apparently cant find some of the files needed.

might just head over to a different program because of all the fuss this one is kicking up

I'd agree with installing an alternative AV for now.
does MSE give you any error codes?
googling for "microsoft security essentials error" brings up a wealth of ideas (although you must be careful to check the addresses to these sites, MSE is being very much targeted for hijacking etc.)

ive just installed avast, and it looks nice and cuddly. perfect for a guy who is useless with computers (i know how to get the most for your money with the hardware, but when it comes to running them i suck harder than a thai hooker)

the main reason i chose it is because it scored pretty well for free antivirus software in the Q1 win7 AV test.

now, if i could just get microsoft security essentials to bugger off
