I've got a Rampage II, xeon 5650, 6gb, 512gb rig.

It was working grand the other day. I wanted a USB 3 port in the pc, so bought one of those plug in cards that sit in a Pci express.

Since plugging it in however the pc didn't work, I've removed it, but the pc goes to the BIOS screen and no further.

Damn!

Any ideas?

Thanks

leave cmos battery out for atleast 10 minutes, then put back in and load optimised defaults in the bios

then see if its ok

You don't need to leave the battery out for extended periods. Just disconnect the PSU, remove battery and short the jumpers, fire the battery back in.

ive seen loads of folks have to leave cmos battery out for extended periods, even overnight with some gigabyte boards idk why, maybe the board still stores power idk but it works

I always unplug the power cord then press and hold the power button. Sometimes there's a small charge left in the PSU, which will spin the fans up a few revolutions and then they die. Then you know it's safe to stick a screwdriver on the jumpers.

I learnt to unplug and discharge after a second time working on a computer without powering it down and unplugging it. The damn thing was whirring away and I didn't even think, reached in and grabbed the GPU to remove it. That was a shock to the system :D

Could be worse...

Try opening a PSU and touching the insides after it's just been powered off!

Very painful and will knock you back ( No I don't suggest you do it :p )
