My PC is dead... Not a good day for PC's. Mine at least.
I upped the CPU to 225Mhz (225x12=2.7Ghz).. It was happily running at 210mhz for 2 days with constant temps.. I was just having a play :D

Now... the pc gives no video output at all.
I can't have fried the CPU as it turns on, the HDD activity light flashes.

  • I've cleaned it all of dust.
  • Reset the jumpers.
  • Removed (and replaced) the CMOS battery.
  • Removed GFX Card and tried On-Board GFX

No joy :( Any other ideas floating about?

I don't have another PC to try the CPU in.

Spec:
  • Athlon 64 3400
  • 1 Gb Ram
  • Geforce 7800GS AGP
  • 250gb Barracuda SATA HDD

It's a 500w, unbranded I beleive, PSU. Has been brilliant and reliable since I bought it 2-3years ago.
Could that really be the cause? :(
The PC powers on and fans whirr.....

if that 1gig of ram is two stick take 1 out and reboot if no joy put the 1 you took out and pull the other 1 out and reboot.
ask your friends if you can borrow thier psu to test.

how long have you had each component?

im sure not enough power is been drawn from the psu. see if you can get hold of one to try, if you end up buying one get a branded one, staw away from the el cheapo ones.

Its done very well to have lasted as long as it has, being an unbranded psu. a few weeks back my trusty Hiper 550w decided to die and take my motherboard with it. the psu still powered up but as they say the lights were on but no one was home :(

Well it doesnt seem to be a PSU problem..
Took out 1 stick of RAM (as suggested above) and it booted to POST.
Checked the other stick.. All ok.
Now it boots with both sticks of memory.

Only thing now is... my Sony (IDE) DVD-ROM drive show up as weird symbols in the Bios and at POST... Will check the IDE Cable next....

Cheers all...
