I've got myself a new cooler and my Q6600 is going along nice and stable at 3Ghz.

I'm playing FSX with REX and UTX add ons and i'm getting a stupidly measly 10FPS :(

What is the problem here. The only thing I can think of is my system drive. It's the 250GB seagate. There is only about 100MB left and I have not done anything to it for a while. But surely that only affects loading times and not frame rates:confused:

I was getting 20-25 FPS not long ago. Playable. Now it's a pretty slideshow.

I am getting the talon attack 460GTX card next week, but i'm sure the 8800GTS still has enough oomph for FSX.

Plus I have also heard that FSX is more CPU speed dependent than graphics card.

This guys got pretty much same spec as me. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G4k2gRrzRRA

The problem with FSX is that it is known to be badly optimised.

Make sure you are completely up to date with the FSX Service Packs, as they can take advantage of the Quad Core CPU.

But as the others have said, a graphics card update is well needed - FSX is pretty intense, and a 8800GTS, unfortunatly, won't cut it :p

More RAM will help.

Oops - I didn't even notice this :p

Definitely more RAM will help - infact, I would upgrade the RAM from 2GB to 4GB before I would upgrade the graphics personally...

If you say that it was running to your liking before, it's more than likely that you've installed something that is taking up more RAM than before, and so the game has less to work with.

Biggest contributor to poor frame rates here is likely to be the 2GB RAM. What OS are you running? How many background programmes running? anti-virus/ firewall for example?

Hard drive should have minimal impact on frame rate but more on texture loading / draw distance. When was it last defragmented? Has fsx been installed on its own drive, as the first install?

What settings do you run with FSX?
-light bloom, autogen density at very high & most dense are killers for any system.

GFX card, 8800GTS will be hitting fps when you fly with high levels of eye candy like REX and a high cloud densities for example.

What FSX tweaks have you done to the fsx.cfg file?

Cheers guys,

I remembered I got virgin broadband installed. I have disabled the virgin security program and it has made quite a difference. My frames have doubled to 20FPS.

Still gonna add the 460. I have my eye on 4GB of ram for sale on ebay and I may well do a clean install on an F3. That should sort all my probs.
