My pc is dead... :(

:(
ok, i ordered this new harddrive and Northbridge cooler the other day..., so i got it all today, and put it al in. I had to take apart to get it all sorted, but i put it back the same way... now it wont log onto windows. I can access the bios but it wont go much further, it just says... something has updated. I can change the bios so that i boot off the windows disk, but it wont read the disk. My neighbour thinks the disk array is broken. I also fear i might have shorted the power supply as i saw this nasty blue flash. I was just curious of what you thought of it. Also i ahve already tried clearing the bios (both the pin and the battery ways) and whe i boot it jsut says "cmos checksum error"

thanks, alec

Need specifics when it comes to this sort of trouble shooting I'm afraid. what exactly does it say has Updated?

I had similar stuff happen to an old board I had, it eventually crapped out on me, it might be better, unless some one else can come up with anything, to suck it up and buy a new mobo

i think that was becasue i accidently touched a positive wire fromt eh molex conector thing to a negative one on a different molex conector.... might ahve blown the entire system and ill jsut have to get a new one :D

it says... dmi pool updated, and then jsut hangs...

Hmm, two things come to mind- dodgy hard drive. Run the system with only motherboard, cpu, cooler, ram, graphics card and psu and see how that goes. Other thing is the BIOS could br broken- download an updated one and try flashing it :)

When did the flash occur, roughly in which area of the PC, was there any burning smells, or is there any small burn marks?

Frankly anything could have shorted anything out, or it could just be one dodgy part. "A blue flash" isn't going to help either of us.

Sorry with the tad of thread necromancy... Ive been away. Basically the flash was jsut at the end of one of the power cables... no smell.. jsut a short cicuit i think. Thanks for the replies so far... It is in my local pc shop atm, and im going to check on what he says tommorow. I might jsut have to buy a new copy of windows for all i know, as it said it couldnt install from the old disk.

I had a floppy power connector go up in smoke once everything else was fine-ish for about 2 years (I had a RAID 0 array crap out on me for no reason) after and then the mobo was showing symptoms like yours and then it died...

Flashes dont normally bode well, as I discovered when I accidently touched my metal tip screwdriver against a contact in my PSP. Totally bricked the thing.
