My PC is struggling with 1440p

Been off the scene for a while in terms of PC hardware. Im not one to upgrade that often anymore but my PC is starting to show its age. My current build:

intel 2500k oc @4.7ghz Watercooled, AMD 7950 oc, 8gb ram hyper x

Even though its playing next gen games fine at 1080p i have a 1440p monitor which i spent a lot of money on that's going to waste. Games like GTA V, Far Cry 4 and Doom i get 45-55fps at 1080p. But at 1440p i get a mssive fps drop and lowering settings dosen't really change anything. Im assuming my 3gb Vram isn't good enough?

I don't want to spend loads maybe get a graphics card now and a new CPU later in the year. No doubt id need a new motherboard for a CPU upgrade...

Any advice please.

my graphics card is also 3gb thats not your issue...... look at the usage when you
of cpu gpu & ram at 1080p vs 1440p and report back

Faster GPU would be my starting point but I'd wait to see what the new releases are like later this year.

1080p Ram 54% CPU 55-59% GPU 89-91%
1440p Ram 60% CPU 50-55% GPU 99%

This was on Far Cry 4

Yeah you don't have enough GPU power for 1440p.

Yup that's what I'd do

I'll be ditching my 7990 around the same time - can't wait to get rid of Crossfire.
