Hey mates,
To start: I have a 500gb hdd that had vista installed on it. Then bought SSD and put vista on that. I had a problem and had to use the vista disk to repair the ssd vista. Only problem was that I forgot to unplug my hdd and it repaired that by mistake. I got that all sorted out but now everytime I boot i get windows boot manager asking me which windows to boot. Is there anyway to set it to always use the first option by default? It adds to my boot time and is annoying.

Thanks in advance.

Is that my only option? Windows boot manager has no way to configure it? What about unplugging the hdd, and trying to boot from it still a couple of times. When it doesn't find it, will it remove it from the list you think?

What about using the bios to change the boot device priority? or have I misunderstood the question? :)

you know I didn't even think to see if that setting got changed somehow, i'm powering down now, will edit this post to let you know how that worked out.

EDIT: nope made no difference.

Will still be in the boot loader on the drive to bring up the option as to what OS you would want.

EasyBCD, only a few meg download, install and change it to default to the OS you want and change the default time and job done.

Remove once happy

Very nice. Sounds like you have encountered this problem before...

I have indeed :)

Quick and easy to fix, had it when i installed Vista and wanted my other partition to be default as hadn't migrated everything over

Start > run > msconfig

Click [boot].

Select the correct Windows installation and click default and set timeout to 3 seconds (because if you did select the wrong one, you have 3 seconds to quickly choose the right one :p).

Nice one Pho

Never found a way to do it on Vista and when i googled it many moons ago i'm pretty sure it wasn't configurable and everyone was recommending EasyBCD to do it :)

just modify the boot.ini file located on the root of c:\

its a hidden file so you will need disply them first, then delete the line on the bottom that you dont need (its listed by partition mostly)

That's what I was going to say. It's the easiest way. You dont even need run command, just type msconfig into "Start Search" in Vista. You can also choose non gui boot which is actually nicer than the green bar.

Worked like a charm. I just completely deleted the other boot i didn't wan't. It was on a different drive so it was easy to find. Booted up fully ready to use in 26secs once again now! :D

Thanks Pho ;)
