I got my 4790k last night, popped it in all working fine. And I thought after work today I thought I'd get overclocking so in preparation I updated my bios, something I never done when i first got it, using Asus ezflash 2.

And nooowww.. It won't boot. It brings up the black loading screen with the spinning things then bsods and restarts. Bios is all fine, I can adjust everything etc. I thought the mobo might be under volting the chip so I upped the vcore, same thing. Ram with the xmp and no profile still nothing. Tonight I'm going to try and roll back to a previous bios update and see if that works.

The pc restarts so quickly I don't get a chance to see the error code.

Anyone else had this? Or any suggestions on how to get past it?

Spinning thing? Aka the windows icon?
i.e.

Or something else?

Is ezflash a windows utility Try doing a flash from a usb stick. Are you sure the bios version is correct. Even the same boards can have different revisions that may need a different bios( seems unlikely though). As above clear cmos, and check which mode your set to( AHCI, IDE).

Flashing you'll have lost all your settings I guess so it could be anything! Not sure how far from default you might have been.

Try safe mode?

Its likely RAM related. Check your timings.

Actually very good point. Check ahci ide mode. It may have flipped back to ide, and if windows was installed on achi this would explain it.

Ezflash is a bios tool. Last night I tried 3 different updates, back from the newest. I haven't reset the cmos as I couldn't be bothered to take my gpu as I was in a bit of a rush. Going to sit down and do it properly tonight.

Checked the drives first time as I thought that, all set to ahci.

I before I never even touched the bios, just set 4.7 and changed the volts, put it to xmp. So I didn't change any settings there.

I can't get into Windows at all. It's exactly as the first picture but for windows 7. Going to reinstall windows 10 later.

Thanks. I'll have another go after work and see what I can get!

Hope you get it sorted. Have you tried booting with everthing stock, as one thing to consider if you are running an overclock you may need to recheck your voltage. Some Bioses change the default Vcore down a touch, Gigabyte have done it in the past and it required a slight change to my offset.

I've only just got in, i'm going to start now. I have a feeling windows is fubar because I can't even get into system restore as it crashes, may buy windows 8.1 or go for the windows 10 preview and try that. Got to much crap on my ssd anyway.

All setting are stock, no overclock profiles, nothing. It's really odd.

Yes that's what i'm doing now, half way through downloading. Going to update to the latest bios before hand and see if I have any joy. Gives me an excuse to pop my new fans in and braided extensions while i'm waiting too :D
