my pc restarts itself!!!!

in XP.

Control panel--system--advanced..startup and recovery...Automatically restart.

untick the box, this will stop your pc restarting and give you the error message..you can then see what the error is at least and hopefully fix it.

Try booting it into safe mode, and see if it doesn't reset, it may be a software problem, if it does reset then it may be a hardware issue or windows itself, but try what Ivyforce was saying as that was a big problem on XP, for your issue.

Control panel - system and security - system - advanced system settings - advanced - startup and recovery.

I might be wrong, but im sure this only stops the PC from auto restarting after a BSOD or random shutdown, therefore manually having to restart the PC. Wouldn't that basically mean that his problem wont really be solved as to why its shutting down randomly in the first place.

right lad

post the entire specification of your pc
case
mobo
psu
heatsink+fan
extra fans
any attachments like memory card readers
hard drives
make of ram and how much
graphics card
sound card
net card
whatever else

also post how long youve had it

also include whether you know how to open the case and take everything out and put it back in.

when did the problem occur.

look how the problem starts... before 4-5 days my pc shot down and my power supply was dead.. i send it back to overclockers to check it and im still waiting . the power supply was OCZ StealthXStream 700w Silent Power Supply and i had another power supply, that i am using now the ATX PSU 700w... the problems start from the second day as i was playing a game on my pc... also a couple of fans didnt work so i removed them... Also my motherboard has 8 input plug EATX12v and the new power supply has only 4 and is working with that.. maybe is that the main problem..

Hi,

In windows 7 an unexpected shutdown will be captured by the event log.

If you go to (control panel > administrative tools > event viewer) expand out windows logs, right click on system and select "fiter current log".

Windows stop errors will usually be around event id 6008. This will at least give you the details (time, error code etc) of the error that caused windows shutdown, in my instance this was the battery running out or me holding the power down to force a restart. However if a bsod occurs it will also log the same information shown on the bsod in the logs.

I suspect your problem is more of a hardware problem and if its memory, gpu or hard disk/paging related you will be able to narrow it down from the logs, but how comfortable are you with taking your pc appart? To be honest if your waiting on a new psu and that fixes it then job done otherwise id rule that out then start pulling memory.
