Hi all

Can some one help me choose a new case (and maybe psu) please? :D

My room (in summer) is about 25+ and my pc keeps shutting down. I need a case with exceptional cooling as my Antec Sonta II is some what lacking with only one case fan.I have a Corsair H50 cooling my 955BE @3.6 (wont go any further) but it still managers to reach 63+(1.45v) at times while gaming causing my pc to shut down  (not good while in full swing playing BBC2). I would as like a case with good cable management but cooling is the main factor!!

So far ive looked at these:

My budget is about £180 for case and psu... or is my 550w Antec ok?

Thanks!

Why do you need a new PSU? That will be fine unless you're thinking of going to a multi-GPU setup IMO.

If it don't need upgrading (and won't make it prettier), don't bother. :P

Yeah i hear what ya saying but i was thinking of going modular to cut down on cables for better air flow... or wont that make to much differance?

Sure it will cut down on clutter but depending on the case and how you hide the cables of a non modular psu it can work just as well. I myself own an Antec 902 case and inside it I have a Corsair 750 (non modular) PSU which has plenty of extra cables. I got round the problem by moving one of the hard drive cages up one slot thus allowing unrestricted air flow from the 120mm fan in the cage by sliding all the unused cables into the slot I created under the cage.

Ok, so i can save on PSU and maybe look at the 902 V3. That Coolermaster HAF X Gaming Tower Case is $260 over here, 902 V3 is only $140 :D and maybe add extra fan on the side panel/window too? Damn the heat!!

There are ways of hiding cable clutter. I used an old PSU and gutted it, chopped a couple of holes in it, and voila, instantly tidier.

The 902 has plenty of fans you can move and adjust the speed of that should solve your problem. To be honest I wouldnt bother with a side fan as its be tested blowing in / sucking out / and none fitted and found not to make any great difference. Plus not fitting one will allow you to fit a larger cpu cooler if required. I myself have a Noctua NH-U12P with twin 120mm fans.

Muel - very nice mate :)

Cheers guys. Gonna get slated for posted that pic yet again but I love it. :P

slade - Aye get on it mate, makes such a difference to how tidy it looks, when actually inside the second PSU, it's very very not neat...

There's a big oval hole in the second PSU and the motherboard tray, so the 24pin and 8pin can be routed up behind the motherboard tray, but only seen when then pop up.

Hey, you may not take any advice from me but I'll just voice my opion/advice :p

But as I'm looking to get a case too as I'm in the same sort of situation where ma PC just shuts down on me and beeps loudly cause of GFX Card over heating, only difference is I like to budget my self as small as possible, but these two case's below provide excellent air flows, and good cable tidy.
Coolermaster CM-690 II Lite Dominator Case - £61.26 inc VAT
Coolermaster CM-690 II Advanced Dominator Case - £76.99 inc VAT

You could also go ahead and buy this nice side panel in the future:
Coolermaster CM-690 II Case Window Side Panel - £16.33 inc VAT

I'm also looking to buy the fan below, but its a bit expensive so I wont be buying all 7 at once, but you can get a few fan filters too and you case would go nicely I recon
Akasa AK-FN059 120mm Ultra Quiet Viper Cool Fan - £13.26 inc VAT

Hope this has helped, good luck with what you pick, let us know =D

Muel: that looks so dam CLEAN!

Cheers i like that Coolermaster CM-690 II Advanced Dominator Case ... heaps of fans and good price too

My PC just shut down again playing BBC2... PII 955BE was at 68.7c

So i just watched a review of the Coolermaster HAF X case on Youtube (Linus Tech Tips) and it looks bloody huge. also looking at CoolerMaster RC HAF Black Case.

Firstly you have asked if the 550w Antec PSU is enough for your system. You didn't post the full spec of your system. I would suggest that Antec are very good PSU's most single GPU card systems should generally be ok n antec 550w unit.

I'm quite frankly rather surprised that your PC is overheating due to the case choice you have. The Sonata family are very good cases, but I believe some cable management may benefit.

However if you realyl want to upgrade, which I think you seem to want to do then there are many options available with the budget you have. If you want to upgrade your PSU I would recommend the Antec TruePower New 650w this PSU's more than up to the job for most systems, and at the moment we have it very cheap.

Cases are very much personal choice, there are many options available if you want a cooler system. Coolermaster CM-690 II range are very good, Antec 902/1200 are great/ Lian Li have some good cases and Lancool are great too.
