Hi i upgraded my pc when half life 2 was released and it ran that ok but now with the latest games like oblivion and cod2 its having trouble running them, so im looking for a upgrade here is my pc spec now can any one tell me what will help run these new games.

Standard Hard Drive 7.200 Rpm
Standard Power Supply 450 Watt
Sapphire Ati Radeion 9800 Xt 256Mb
Amd Athlon 64 Processor 3000+ Socket 939
Abit Av8 Uguru MotherBoard
Sounblaster Audigy 2 SoundCard
Windows Xp Home Service Pack 2

Im looking For upgrades or a new pc for games my budget is 800 Pounds

Do you want to completely upgrade everything or are you looking to salvage anything ?

What RAM are you using?

Have you updated to the latest direct x?

Also, what do you want to keep / what's your budget?
 
Sapphire Ati Radeion 9800 Xt 256Mb is the main part that is letting you down. But to get a new graphics card, you should really be looking at PCI express, and AFAIK, you motherboard only has AGP. The CPU isn't bad, its what I have at the moment. If you overclock it to about 2.4ghz or over it should do you fine for a while longer. As for the graphics card, it depends on your budget really.

EDIT: i think you could keep your current soundcard, or even use the onboard sound as onboard sound is now quite good.....

also if you really didnt want to upgrade your processor (though i think it would better if u did for gaming) you could perhaps get the deluxe version of the motherboard, and perhaps a better choice of mem (though i think the one i have chosen is good)

You'd have a high-end PC ;)

If you got a duel-core processor, you'd have a whole generation above most users here too. I'd imagine pretty well :p
 
Yeah very true, you would have a high end PC capable of running all the latest and greatest games, also if you did get a dual core processor, there are many games releasing patches that utilise the dual core processor....good luck

Nice spec, I'd drop to a cheaper but just as good tagan modular PSU, Geil Value ram then replace the SD with a 3800+ dual core. Should come out to about the same money.
 
you could also buy the asrock dual sata 2 , upgrade to what ever chip you want and keep your 9800 xt until you can afford a top notch pcie graphics card
