Just wondering what everyone thinks to my photography stuff :)? Not taken any photos most of the year but will be taking a fair few soon I'd expect. Whole new country to live in and explore!

My website :).

PS: Thoughts on print prices too would be highly appreciated. I'm not a pro by any means, more of a keen amateur who doesn't mind selling his photos.

Well your print prices are very cheap I'd say, you can't be making much if they're of decent quality. The photography isn't to my taste and I would even beyond that it needs some work, composition looks like it could use some work in most cases.

I say looks like because, well, your website is terrible for displaying your work. Your gallery images are tiny, phone photos would look good at that size so if your work is any good you aren't doing it any justice, look at some decent photographers sites and take some cues from there.

Also, you need to proof read your text more...

Sorry, that's a little negative, the main thing is your displaying your photos very poorly to show them off. Expecting anybody to buy even an A4 print from what you can make out of the photos on there is asking a lot.

I know you didn't ask for feedback on your wording but I read your 'about me' and thought it would possibly be better without this last bit, "I'm quite pleased to say that I regularly meet that level and have good experiences with clients, backed up by some amazing photos to match." It came across to me as being a bit egotistical.

You have some nice shots in there, a little basic if I'm honest. Perhaps work on the technical side and composition and then learn more about light.

Print prices I'm never sure about. See how much it will cost you to get one printed and delivered then add an amount on top that you would be happy with. Remember it's the preparation time as well as making a profit.

EDIT: I second what bigredshark has said about the image sizes. You should go a lot bigger!

I think you should look in to Wordpress imo

Just something to add to the above, I clicked on 'Showcase' and seems none of the pictures had titles or any description - just the file name.

I was on a course recently and one of the things mentioned was to give your pictures a title and even a quick blurb (even that blurb is for a set) particularly in a portfolio type setting. Pictures should always speak for itself but a title can just convey your thoughts on the picture or what the key theme is in a picture.

Just something to think about :)

I'd defiantly reiterate that.

Leaving the camera index number as the filename always just strikes me as a Photographer who either doesn't know how to change their title, or it's such a simple click and shoot throwaway of a shot that they don't care.

I completely agree with you. Not sure about the best way of showing the photos etc though, do you have any good examples to show me?

I always welcome feedback and would agree that my writeup isn't really ideal. Tbh it was more of a space filler, what else are you meant to put on a photography site? It's a hobby which I wouldn't mind helping to pay for itself. As for the shots, I know they are not the most amazing but some are quite good. The image size has been mentioned several times but short of putting an intrusive watermark on the site, I could think of no way to stop people being able to rip off my work.

I get very, very few sales (could count them without taking my socks off) and the majority of those were done at an event which I photographed. Returned for the evening entertainment with an 2 A3 prints, crowd was very impressed and it was sold in under 30 seconds. The price I let the print go for was silly cheap though, £5. Definitely making a loss! However I did make some good friends on that occasion. Agree the website definitely needs work and am open to suggestions. I can use photoshop and do have some basic html/css skills but have never really understood how to make my own template. I'd quite like to be able to do flash too but it's having the time and patience to learn it.

Thank you to all for the feedback so far, please keep it coming :).

You still haven't fixed the dead links, bad bad man :P

Never got around to it or figured what to put in there!

Fair point, be a bit difficult to do now as the events are not very fresh in my mind but I do like the idea. Don't think I'll be able to name every photo though, I'm not good at making up names and the idea of trying to do that for 100s, even 1000s of photos is not something I'd be up for. Can see it working well with the landscape photos though. Thank you :).

I'd defiantly reiterate that.

Main reason I left the file name there is that people can see which prints they like and tell me much easier :). That was the plan anyway. Thank you for the feedback.

For design, I much prefer a Navigation bar at the top of the page, not vertically.

Inside your contacts page, you Facebook link is dead, and just goes to the homepage, which will be anyone Facebook Feed, that needs changing to;
facebook/[your chosen id]/

Personally i think the links at the top are to small.

And having three different buttons on each page which allow you to go back to the home page? I don't like that, should just be your Logo and/or your Home link on your navigation bar.

Sorry if you don't like any of my comments, just constructive feedback :).

I like the layout etc, good example thank you. Disappointing there was no comments on his wedding shoot though, did find it very interesting to see how much he charged though! 1 wedding and he thinks he is entitled to earn at least £750. Bit ambiticious imo.

No worries, appreciate the feedback. I knew about the Facebook being dead, the link did work when I had the group page going but found that I was getting little interest despite having a few hundred followers. Sort of what made me loose motivation. I'm definitely wanting to revamp the website at some point though, any good ideas for learning flash? I've got dreamweaver, flash, photoshop... but I can use notepad too. Mainly just edit existing templates for my own use and tend to get on effectively as the base is already there.

Any ideas how I would go about doing this?

Thanks for all the feedback guys, like I said a bit of a project / wip.

"Then I dropped all of the packages and introduced a new service - £750 for attendance and proofs (on CD) only. The number of bookings more than doubled.

The point is, wedding photography is a professional service and its value is whatever the photographer and the client believe it to be – although there are always some people who are looking for the cheapest, the potential clients who are most worth having are more likely to make their buying decisions based on quality and perceived value than on price. No worries at all :).

Best look for tutorials, you can make very interesting websites which are flash based; Interactive and animated.

They are pretty easy to do if you have patience, and you follow tutorials correctly, you can learn pretty fast.

Invest in some books maybe too :).

I wouldn't go with flash now tbh, not after adobe are no longer supporting it for mobile devices and that new HTML thing will likely be taking over.
Also not really keen on using flash much, if at all, as too many bell's + whistles are distracting imo.

Tbh I think it's better to display your work in a nice simple to use way, that people don't have to try to work out how to navigate before they've even started.

Ok guys, thank you :). Got another project to get started soon but will keep it in mind. Going to be a wordpress blog next, might link my photography into it. Thing is the blog is more personal, the photography I'd rather be more business like. Think I'll make it so some posts are hidden unless you are part of a usergroup if that's possible? Similar to how you can do on SMF forums.
