My product photography

First thing that comes to mind, the main wide/landscape type banner when you get on the first page seems a bit dark/underexposed?

After checking more shots, the rest seem better exposed but all slightly dark for me and I usually like my shots slightly darker/contrasty so perhaps your monitor is a bit too bright?

I quite fancy one of those maple boards but since those are the same price I just paid for three knifes then it seems a bit pricy for me right now lol :D

I can understand that but most knives are machine made with high output, my boards are mostly made by hand to the highest standard. I am selling Robert Welch knives on there own and as a package deal when I have time to sort more images

I did take exposure down as to me the white background was bright and kind of strained my eyes

Yeah this could just be due to your monitor not being calibrated enough. If your monitor brightness is particularly high then it will seem brighter to you than it does for others.

It might be worth checking them from a few other screens if you can? Phones/Tablets aren't great as most of them have some kind of automatic brightness adjustments made to compensate for the level of light in your room.

A proper calibration is better but requires equipment. I just looked at this site for the recommended settings for my monitor

It's not perfect as all monitors will vary a little but it's at least a bit better than just guessing :)

The price comment wasn't really a criticism, more an observation. I guess Maple isn't exactly plentiful here but the Maple boards are a lot cheaper in Canada as you might guess hehe.

I would recommend keeping your processing consistent. Some of the images are low contrast some are a lot higher. Also I can see a dark corner in one of the pics.

Also you need to keep your angles consistent. The three chopping boards on the front page are all shot from different angles. Lock your camera position, then mark the position of the first chopping board, photograph, then put next board in exactly the same location. Repeat.

So basically you need to be more consistent. When you're shooting a catalogue of products, each photograph is not absolute as would be in an arty portfolio of random subjects, in a catalogue you're looking for technical mastery and each photo is is relative to the previous and next photograph. If one photo has higher contrast and different processing to the other on a white-background-consistently-lit-studio-setup, it's not going to look professional.

Thanks for the feedback. Sorry I wasn't taking it as criticism. Im wondering whether the Sony rx100 mk1 would be better for the crop factor, our slr is a Canon 1100d. I will mark the board on the next shots as I have some metal tags coming to screw on

ok, it's got nothing to do with your camera, it's the lighting setup you are using.

You could shoot excellent quality photos for your site with a mobile if the lighting is right.

Your images aren't consistent, check this one for instance: http://www.peakchoppingboards.co.uk...ucts/walnut-cherry-and-maple-chopping-board-1

First image has high contrast, dark colors. the next three look washed out in comparison.

I shoot products, Bridgestone Golf are one of my main clients, getting consistent images can be a pain if you have to set everything up each time but it will come with practice. Lots of guides on Youtube for product photography too :)

thanks for the input, its the different settings processing the raw files where i went wrong, it was my first time doing this so bound to make mistakes.
ive downloaded the profile for my monitor now, its a dell 2209wa so should be ok for this type of work
