 !

PS3 Slim by the way.

Whenever I play, normally a few minutes after it has been turned off and EVEN randomly...it makes a kinda, plastic cracking noise. I can't describe it. Maybe its just the heat and it kinda expands a bit?

There isn't any physical cracks on the outside of the case.

It's actually the case itself expanding and contracting when the console heats up and cools down (if you loosen the screws a fraction it should stop).

Heh, this had me all "OH NOES!" when I first heard it, sounded like something in the machine just snapped in half.

same here thought it was my wooden shelf at first because it holds both ps3 and 360 but started to notice that it only cracked when ps3 was on.

Same here :(

Scared the hell out of me the other day because it sounded more like a framing hammer falling on it from 6 feet up :o

Mine has done this ever since I got it (more or less). Not excessively concerned as my LCD TV also does it and so did my old 360. Dunno why but my Phat PS3 never did. I read somewhere it was components cooling down, as well.

In this day and age, are there seriously still people that don't understand thermal expansion/contraction?

No? Everyone in the thread already knew what it was including the OP. No shame in asking for confirmation though when you just spent £250~ on something and it's making snapping/cracking noises. For all the OP knew it could have been something else, like some kind of serious issue.

TV does this at night when I'm trying to get to sleep. When it is turned off. Absolute **** myself sometimes. :p

Funny, the LCD in the bedroom scares me when it's been on as it does this as well, my 60GB Phat launch PS3 does not do this though.
