My PS3 sometimes crashes when starting/quitting games

Hello, I've not really used my PS3 since September, but have now moved it into my flat. Previously, it would rarely crash. But now, there always seems to be a 50/50 chance of it crashing (gets stuck on a black screen) while either quitting or starting a game - or even PlayTV.

It's an original 60gb unit with the latest firmware.

Any ideas?

Sounds bit iffy, if your comfertable with doing so take it apart and give it a good clean out as if you had it since launch and never cleaned it their a chance maybe very dusty so worth a shot!

Mine does this. As have the 2 I had before it. All 60GB models.

Had this with 3 different PS3's after the 3.00 update. Nothing cured it at all, even the recommendation of wiping the console and reinstalling the firmware.

Hmm well at least I know now not to waste my time formatting.
I wish there was a solution though.
