Hi, is worthy to upgrade my C.P.U to any of these 2? Q9300 or Q9450?

mostly I have my cpu in 3ghz (24/7), (3.37 MAX). I want a better CPU for better OC (maybe hit the 3.6 MAX and stable 24/7 to 3.2), and better power consumption.

Also I have Ocz reapers 800mhz, si I dont want it to stress it so much.

In my Q6600 I lower my ram to 667 1:1 9x333 = 3ghz becase of some problem with nvidia driver stop error. But I want to get max to 375 or 380...

are these a good choise for these, I read in some other post that Q6600 G0 is better OCer because of the high multiplier.... is that correct?

What exactly do you want all that power for?

It's generally accepted unless you do something like video encoding or live for 3DMark scores anything much beyond 3gig makes little difference in games thanks to the current GPU performance not keeping up.

If you play games I certainly wouldn't bother upgrading just yet. Wait a little until the prices drop and you can pick up a bargain.

If you have 1Gb sticks of RAM you should be able to overclock them quite a bit. Otherwise your RAM will probably limit the overclock on the new quads unless you use a divider (not sure about performance loss this would bring). Skip the Q9300 though as it lacks the 12Mb cache of the Q9450 and the multiplier is too low imo.

I expect you will gain around 10% performance clocking a Q9450 to 3.2GHz over a Q6600. 3.2 will require 400MHz FSB and will be close to the limit of your RAM at 1:1 (assuming 2Gb sticks). The other option is to get 4Gb PC8000+ and clock the socks off it, the maximus should be good for 450+ FSB which would give you 3.6GHz and make the upgrade worthwhile.

As said clock for clock 45nm wolfdale/yorkfield parts are approximately 10% faster than 65nm conroe/kentfield. And yes Q6600 is easier to clock because of higher multi. The prices for pre-order of the new quads are just silly even the Q9300 will set you back £200 and that has 2mb less cache than Q6600.

It will be no good for overclock too due to 7 multi, you'll need 500FSB capable mobo for that and it's very rare especially when it comes to ocing quad. Top X38/X48 chipsets will probably do it but it costs a lot of money too.

Mine is a B3 too sitting at 3375Mhz wish I had just waited for a few more weeks as G0 Q6600s price in members market plummeted ever since E8000 series came out.

Depending on your temps, you should be able to get a bit more out of your b3. If you could fix the stop error that is. are you sure its an Nvidia problem? are you using XP or Vista? because I remember a microsoft hotfix for XP and dual/quad cores that stops a "stop error". unless Im miss-reading something ;)
