My Rally Project

Jonneh, is yours the carb version or fuel injection? If it's the injection, take the air trunking off of the throttle body and clean the little wire/metal thingy attached to the side of the injector - that'll stop it kangerooing.

Its carb I think as its got a choke. He reckons its 85Bhp too

it is just that, a 5 door xs, its got xs bumpers, clocks, seats n stuff, just 2 extra doors.
i def got a carb version. im not entirly sure on actual bhp but iv read 85 sumwhere, possibly the system at work(halfords)
i def had 120mph on the clock on *** way home! she was screamin, and then over heating, the big red stop light came on n everythin. hee hee.
of course the speedo *** be wrong, the needle does jump up n down a lot at low speeds?? any ideas? will a new cable sort this?

where do i get the magic blue book from? do i have to apply for the racing licence from the msa.

The last time i saw all the red dash lights come on was either when she was out of oil , or just befoore the head gasket blew. Have you checked the oil or the water levels. Even thought there should be a water level sensor there stick and you need to actually unscrew the top of the resivior and check the level by using your finger.

If the head gasket goes you could be looking at about £250 of damage if your lucky.

If the oil level is low enought to cuse the lights to come on then you could end up looking for a new engine.

As far as the "blue book" is concerrned, i think you have to join the MSA to get it.

when i slowed down it turned straigt off, it faded out at the same time as the little red light on the temp guage.i think it mite of been sumat to do with nearly red lining it and trying to cruise down a motor way at the same time.
theres plenty of oil in her, new oil aswell by the look of it. duno about water. the car is currently at a mates farm, i will check next time i go down. cheers for your advice!

ill prob change the coolant in her anyways, along with plugs, ht leads. oil and filters. i should be taxing her this weekend so the fun begins soon. will keep you updated.

Enough of the puny 1.4 discussion ;)

My new lights finally arrived today - Valeo, so they are the same as the OE ones coming off the car. Here are the tarnished old lights:

And the spangly new ones:

Simply pull back the springs and remove the old light unit:

May as well fit new indicators at the same time:

Looks very "Mad Max" without lights:

All fitted, just need adjusting for aim:

Freshens the looks of the car, improves lighting no end - £40 well spent I think.

Right, off to work now!

nice, and worth the money. You not changing the fog lamps too?

They're not fog lamps mate, they're driving lights. They only come on with full beam. I've got 100watters in my two :D

Lights on = Head Gasket for mine. :(

Hopefully it should be pieced back together this weekend, Lopez is helping motivate me! Good work chap.

looking good lopez, :)
U got a real bargin there.
i have also bought myself a 205 as a rally project.
although mine is only a 1.4 GT as im 18 and no one will insure me on a GTi.
im only after road rallying to begin with so its gonna stay pretty much standard apart from ripping out anything unnecessary.
they are very cheep cars, this one cost me £165 with 12 months MOT
will try get a pic soon.

did u try elephant and admiral? I got insured on a 1.9 GTi 1 month after my 19th birthday. Im 20 now and paying a grand for insurence. Not bad considering my age and the performance of the car.

i did try admiral, they said i have to be 19 and have 1 years experience. not heard of elephant before? any good?

them lights look v good lopez.

Lopez, is the front end supposed to be that high, or have you jacked it up or something and it hasn't settled back to the normal ride height?

PS. Looking foward to seeing that guide on improving the lighting ;):D

That's pretty much standard ride height for the 205 GTi. The 14" wheels don't fill the arches very well. Anyway, low is bad for road rallies!

Not replacing the low level driving lights, they're going in the bin. I've got Cibie Super Bi-Oscars going in front of the grille instead.

You're throwing them away? Hmm, well, yeah, their not all that good are they coming to think of it. You could make some nice brake vents out of it I suppose!

Yep, the rules dictate you may only have 4 forward-facing beams - and trust me, Cibie Super Bioscars will blow the Peugeot standard items into the weeds on the illumination front. :)

I don't know anyone posh enough to run bi oscars. Us student types make do with oscar pluses:p. Let us know how you get on with them, they're the fog/driving lights combined aren't they?
