My RAM isn't showing properly?

I got the Geil 2GB (2x1GB) ultra low latency, dual channel kit... I've updated my DS3 BIOS to F7 and I've put the two sticks into dual channel mode (putting them onto the same colour slots). This is what I'm getting from CPU-Z:

It says 5-5-5-18 there, when it should be 4-4-4-12? Also, they're running at 400MHz? Is that 400MHz per stick so 800 overall or is that JUST 400..? I'm confused!

I'm no expert but having read a lot of post here, it seems some Mobo's default to a specific setting to start with to ensure POST.

once installed, to get them at their rated speed I beleive you have to set this up manually, unless the BIOS has auto and it it works correctly, but this can be relative to what firmware your BIOS is.

It's unlikey you will damage memory setting it to its correct (as this is what it was sold as) , and if it does then return it as faulty!

But first try upating your BIOS (only if you have problems) as this can rectify a lot of troubles.

also check what voltage is being used, I have read a lot start on 1.8v but the chip is 2.1v (not exact so look on the packaging or manufacturers website for exact figure) -> but this is normally a cause of boot problems, as you are booting ok, your voltage might be ok, but again check it to be sure.

normally its set to default levels and you have to change the settings manually to what the manufacturer sais it can do.

my corsair was 5-5-5-15 by default butg was rated to 4-4-4-12 2.1v so i changed it to that

Okay chaps, so I've just bought the geIL ram and a DS3 motherboard, where in the BIOS do I change the RAM to 2.1V and the timings? because they sometimes have funny names to a non-techy like me and I don't want to start frying stuff!!

I take it that it boots then?

If so, in the BIOS, on the main page, press CTRL+F1 to make the memory timings appear. Then go to MB Intelligent Tweaker (MIT) and about half way down are the memory timings. You need to deselect AUTO and then type in 4-4-4-12.

Near the bottom of the screen is an option called DIMM Overvoltage Control - set that to [+0.3] and you're off.

Thank you! I have neither the RAM or the Mobo yet, still awaiting delivery. But I guess this is the first thing I'll do.

You might want to have a read through this. It's by no means the definitive guide to clocking up an S3/DS3/DS4/DQ6, but it's not bad - even if I do say so myself.

Sorry - wrong thread posted - will correct!
