My old BFG8800GTX oc2 just died for the second time. BFG have replaced it but with a BFG 8800 Ultra OC which I was very pleased at getting a better card

My problem is I've just intalled the new card, connector the 2-off 6 pin power connectors, plugged in my Samsung 226BTW LCD monitor and booted up.......I can hear the PC booting but the monitor says no cable connected. I have tried both DVI connectors on the card but no picture. The lead from the monitor fits perfectly just to clarify that.

At first I thought they'de sent me a dud card but I decided to try plugging in my old 17" Sony CRT monitor and it works perfectly!!

I have tried re-seating the card but no joy.

Does anyone have any suggestions or comments at what might be wrong. Could there be a slight manufaturing tolerance problem between the CRT anf the Ultra card?

Thankyou for any advise you can give

Mike

My friend had this with a GTX and a LCD.
He pushed the reset button on the LCD and all is well.

Have you got a reset button or is there away to reset it?

Thanks for the replies. I know the LCD isn't faulty as I put my old X1900 card back in, plugged in the lcd and it works perfectly.

I will try to see if there is a reset in the monitor menu when I get home tonight. I was pressing auto and it would scan analog and then digital and then would come up with the message "no signal"

I have taken the 8800ultra to work this morning and will put it into my works PC at dinnertime and see if the LCD monitor at work works with it

I'd put money on the GPU outputting a signal frequency that is too high for the LCD to cope with.

Start the PC in safe mode (when you boot up the PC either tap or press and hold the F8 key) and once you're in windows set the graphics properties to 60hz.

Hopefully when you restart all will be well again.

Thanks I'll try that but what I cant understand is why it doesnt even show the initial boot screen. I thought the initial boot screen was in really low res that all monitors could understand?

It's strange that my initial 8800gtx card was ok as the Ultra is the same card but with higher clocks.

I have read the monitor instructions and it says it should automaticallly check for a analog and then a digital signal automatically. A box appears as these are checked and then after 10 seconds the light flashes when the monitor goes into standby.

I could boot in using the LCD and old CRT plugged in and change the settings in windows whilst viewing the crt screen?

Ok heres my update. I connected the card to my works PC at dinner time, connected it to my works LCD and the same again!! No signal.

I pinched a colleagues CRT monitor and connected it to the card and bingo a picture. So why the heck wont it work through an LCD?

I booted to the desktop and set the resolution to 640x480. Plugged in the LCD (Samsung Syncmaster 930bf) and still no picture.

I am totally lost at what to do. Do you think it;s a faulty card? I really can't see Nvidia designing the card not to sync with modern LCD's on boot.

Very strange.

This is what I have goten so far

1. You have tried your home LCD - No picture
2. You have tried your home CRT - Gets Picture
3. You have tried a work LCD - No Picture
4. You have tried a work CRT - Picture
5. Moved Res down to 640 x 480 (have you tried 800 x 600 @ 60Hz?)

If you are sure you have tried to reset both these LCD screens (if you can) then I can only presume the card is giving a incorrect signal to be able to display, It seems you have ruled everything else out unless i'm missing something. possible RMA :/

Superb reply and you have it spot on! since my last post I tried with a brand new Dell LCD monitor from the office at work (4:3 but couldnt see model no) This wouldn;t sync either.

One daft question....How do I reset reset my LCD screen. There is a source button I pressed which tries both analogue and digital signal. I have it set to automatic and everytime I boot up it checks for an analogue signal and digital signal. It always connected to my old 8800 gtx card without any probs.

I have contacted BFG and they have given me an RMA number but I hate sending something back if its me doing something wrong

Thanks again for the replies

once you're in windows set the graphics properties to 60hz.
Like i said in my first post - this is very important since it gives the LCD the best chance of displaying anything.

If it's running around 75hz and certainly up over 80hz+ then it could be the problem.

cheers m8, i'll try the 60hz thing tomorrow in Windows.

anther quick question why would the card not show a display at boot tho? as no drivers are loaded at the point. If it is the 60hz thing how would I be able to go into the bios in future to change things if it wouldnt display anything from boot?

Plug the Ultra into both the CRT and the LCD, then set up a cloned display at a low resolution and at 60Hz :)

yes the crt is digital and the crt's are analog (using vga/dvi dongle)

tried both ports

forgetting about windows etc, why dont i get a display at boot at the lowest level thru the lcd is what confuses me?. I reckon its faulty

I guess it would work if i use vga cable but i would prefer to connect digitally :)

Yep tried it in 2 pc's and 3 different models of LCD monitors (2 Samsungs and a dell) and no boot screen.

Thanks for all the replies i'm pretty certain the card BFg sent me is defective through the digital outs

Great forums these for people taking the time to help others

Cheers
