Right below is my self built rig, just after some suggestions for improvement, any tweaks or software that i can use to get the better of my compoments. Also any components youd recommend for upgrades to my machine.

Rig:

Processor: AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 3800+ (Socket 939)
Mobo: Asus A8N-SLi Premium nForce4 SLi (Socket 939)
Ram: Corsair 1GB DDR XMS3200C2 Pro
Grphx: XFX GeForce 7900 GTX 512MB GDDR3
HD: Western Digital Caviar Special Edition 120GB
CPU Fan: Zalman CNPS9500-LED Aero Flower
Sound: Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 4 7.1
Case: Antec P180 Advanced Super Midi Tower Case - No PSU (Black)
PSU: Enermax Liberty 500W ELT500AWT ATX2.2 Modular SLI Compliant PSU
OptiD: Sony DVD Rom
Mouse: Raptor M1 1600dpi
Keyboard: microsoft internet keyboard
Monitor: 15" widescreen digimate 25ms response

This is bulit as a gaming rig so leet me know what you think could be improved.
Personally i think the following:

Monitor: Viewsonic VX724 17" LCD Monitor
Keyboard: Logitech G15 Gaming-Grade Illuminated Keyboard

the above as a start i was also thinking of
Ram: Corsair 2GB DDR XMS3200C2 XPERT TwinX (2x1GB)

but im only an beginner-intermediate builder and would like to know what the more advanced buliders could suggest.

Very good choice...

I'm not so sure about the Zalman flower.. How about Artic Cooling Freezer 64?

As for the memory, if you are going for 2GB, may a suggest a higher frequancy for potential overclocking that 3800+

The OCZ PC4000 Platinum EB is an excellant choice. 8-3-3-2 1T timings.

OCZ5002048EBPE-K

The Zalman is a very good cooler - have one myself. It's certainly better than the Freezer imo anyway. If you wanted to improve the cooler in a while, you could get a Scythe Mine or Ninja.

I you're going to be gaming, get the X2 patch (you shouldn't need to do the hotfix mentioned, just get the driver).

As Huddy said, you could get some PC4000 RAM, but it isn't essential. I have 2Gb Corsair XMS (CL2) and it's great with my 3800 @ 2.5 GHz. I hope you're going to be clocking it a bit - you can get some fantastic results out of the 3800. Also, my table is getting lonely :(

2Gb of RAM I think I would put in any new machine now.

For gaming I would get at least a 19" monitor...you can get a decent 19" for near the same price as your 17" (Samsun 920N or Acer 19" WS). Anything less than 19" and dont waste money on the 7900GTX. Dont get the 25ms 15" LCD!

Ive always bought NEC DVD-R's....very good and cheap IMO.

Also....socket AM2 id the latest AMD configuration....If I was spending all that money I would get the latest for any future upgrades.

Your going to have to OC that CPU a bit to get full potentail from your graphics card.

Have you bought this stuff yet?

The NEC drive is supposed to be better than the sony - I've got it and it's great. You don't necessarily need the 19" monitor, but it would be better for gaming. 17" would do, but as above, it probably wouldn't get everything out of the card.

ive never dared venture into overclocking, so you think i should over clock the amd then, is there an easy way to do this?

yes ive already bought the above.

a 19" monitor too you say? i was just thinking about the respone time thats y i went for the 17". ive heard viewsonic are the biz when it comes to monitors aswell.

ive got a 20" 2025 WS monitor and really like it. Its the first Viewsonic Ive had (apart from CRT).If you goiing to buy another monitor...go at least 19". There is soooooo much difference over a 15" one. I would also recommend widescreen also as I like it much more than conevtional 4:3.

If your looking to upgrade your system allready....I would go 2Gb or RAM, a bigger monitor and overclock your CPU. Thats pretty much a good gaming system allready.

if you have 2 x 512 at the moment...then sell it and buy 2 x 1Gb sticks.

Have a look at the overclocking forum...im sure theres guides etc. posted in that forum. Any problems...drop a note and im sure youll get plenty help.

anyone know when the artic cooling gpu fan for the 7900's is coming out?
Is it required....from what ive read and heard the 7900GTX coolers are excellent and as good as any aftermarket cooler you can use.

And quiet!

tbh my version of quiet may differ from the reviewers, i dont know how loud the x1900xtx is but the 7900gtx is still pretty dam loud! its the only compnent you can hear put it that way
