Now My Friend Has a system that is not as high end as mine but he has a GTX 780TI.

We was playing battlefield 4 last night and where I was just reaching 60FPS he was hitting 130+.

Now he was running at 1080p to where I was at 1440. but it made me think, did I make a poor choice in going for 2 x 4gb GTX680s instead of 1 higher end GPU.

Would I be wise for me to get a single new GPU and sell my current ones?

Cheers In Advance.

Well first things first, run Battlefield in 1080P and see how it performs. ;)

Two 4GB 680's are not to be sniffed at and I imagine they would outperform a 780TI in games which scale well.

Spock.

So, you both had exactly the same graphics settings too?

So you think that I didn't make a mistake by going for the 2 GTX680s ?

Ofc I expect it to run a lot better at lower resolution. But just wondering on the possibilities of a bigger single card are more suited as I'm not sure how well games are optimised for SLI.

With a budget as sizable as yours probably was, to include a hex core and so on, I probably would have chosen a different route. However a pair of 4GB GTX680's makes for a very very good GPU configuration. The resolution won't impact things vs. a single as the cards both have 4GB of VRAM to use, which is a good amount for 1440P. The only thing which will strike them down in some games, is bad SLI scaling.

If I'm completely honest I'm not sure if my system is running at optimal performance.

I do have ALL settings on BF4 on ultra and get around 60FPS average.

What to you mean by GPU configuration?

Just the graphics cards which you have in a system, whether it is two older ones, one brand new one and so on. Nothing cryptic. :)

As I said though, have you tried it in 1080P? If your friend was running in 1440P he would have been getting a far lower FPS than he was getting in 1080P.

Also, are you sure he was running all of the settings on Ultra? If he runs 1080P with a 780Ti, I would guess he has a high refresh rate (120/144Hz) monitor right? So he may have dropped the settings to get the frame rate up, to make the most of his screen.

Just gave him a call, Hes not running at 1080p hes running at some weird 4:3 resolution because he has a medieval monitor...

That may have something to do with it haha. No idea why he would be playing in 4:3 with a 780Ti... Unless he has a high refresh rate CRT or something, but even then it is a bit unusual. :p

With that in mind I wouldn't worry about your current setup. As I said, it is still very good. And hell, a pair of cards looks better than one right? ;)

Yes they do look much much better than one haha.

Its just a shame I dont have a desk / case... Maybe one day I shall build one.
