My RX8 Restoration Thread

Great thread, it's one of those cars I'd love to own as a second car, whilst the fuel and oil consumption wouldn't be an issue, the potential of an engine eating itself, and the rust issues you identified and repaired is a concern. I wouldn't consider myself mechanically minded enough to justify getting one as it could prove to be very costly.

Yeah it's why you can pick them up for peanuts. My theory is, rotary cars are marmite... simple as that, to own one and run one you buy into it's problems... so for me, I knew the engine will go at some point and to leave cash in the kitty. Others simply do not want the hassle, which is far enough. For me, I love it... and the car always gets looks no matter where I go... people love the thing especially in this colour... it's a one off without being chav'd up... so I'll put up with the rotary being a ticking timebomb lol

Many of these will be broken that values will end up going up. The sound of a rotary on full chat is something behold.

Light, good Horsepower and balanced chassis with an engine that loves to be spanked. What else would you want in a weekend car?

I saw and heard the 3 rotor RX8 at Goodwood during the weekend and it was the second best sound machine there after the 787B ;).

Wow so much rust. Nice work. Did you use vactan rust converter? Currently welding up my transit and slobbered this stuff up on the areas. Por 15 is an excellent product. Hard as nails and better than under seal.

Can't remember the name of the stuff we used for the rust conversion... odd stuff though as goes purple on application... seemed to work though which is great. Not heard of Por 15

Quality feels fantastic, and the calipers are enormous however lighter than I thought. Kit comes with everything you need even nice new braided hoses... will post pictures once they're on!!!

The care and attention going into this build is great. Looks a cracking job, will be watching.

Don't suppose you'll be selling the old calipers your removing ;)?

You can have them and the discs and yellow stuff pads if you want. Calipers fine just need lickle of paint.

Cheers guys... pick up tomorrow as she needed a new air c9n piped it delayed me. However the discs...

OMFG. SERIOUSLY NEVER BEEN IN ANYTHING THAT STOPS LIKE IT. Couldn't believe the difference... they're insane. Seriously twice as good as standard... and they look incredible. Proper race territory.

As for engine nope that'll be the last thing to do. As that'll be the most expensive thing. Will post some piccies tomorrow.

Did you think about going with a 20b triple for the engine swap? ;)

It's just that little bit more insane. :D
Rofl... I'm not convinced that would be road legal. Nahhh... good old RX7 engine 360 100% reliable will be perfectly balanced for this car. It's not ultimate bhp figures I'm looking for reliability and power... and this is perfect balance. Have heard the triple rotors and they're insane... sound like thunder!

How nice do they look, too nice to fit, i'd put them on display! LOL
Hahaha, yeah I know, the pictures really don't do them justive at all :-( In the flesh they're amazing!

Properly interested to see how these look behind the alloys. From what I understand the standard RX8 brakes are pretty good as far as standard brakes go, with it being a relatively light coupe. It must be insane now.

If you don't need them anymore then Let me know what you want for the lot then via trust.

Can have them, will speak with Dwayne tomorrow and make sure they're ok to have, Calipers work 100%, discs and pads will be worn, but you can have the lot free if he's not binned them which I doubt it. And I'm off down Cannock way Thursday evening on way to friends... could drop them off for you if you want? Then if you use them great if not, throw them?
