While typing up my last question, something occured to me........
My GTX has a knackered DVI port, so is never going to sell for anything more than pence (unless I RMA it, but it's been in and out of the machine so many times (never it's fault), the edge connector's right scruffy looking, so BFG may tell me to embark upon by bicycle).....so I may well be stuck with keeping it as a redundant backup until a friend in need rings (this is where the contents of my parts bin always end up).
Which is why I am about to ask...........
Can I keep it in the machine with a 4800, and toggle between them?
I know you can run cards distinct from each other, but what about 2 massive accelerators....one in use, one idle?
I have seen many times recently here, that XP is still totally pathetic at hardware support, that you need to format if you change display adaptors (I despise windows, but I'd give it more credit than that, but who am I? LOL). SO it may be a matter of dual booting.
Why?
No reason other than it would be the ultimate head to head comparision......run game/test.....reboot with new card active in precisely the same rig, without dropping the side off the case....and repeat.
Don't yell, it's just a passing whim, and it's probably VERY stupid (my psu would melt perhaps), and the more I think about it myself, the dumber it'll sound.....but hey it beats "I'm an eejit and I want money back for hardware I bought when it cost more"
