Hello,

I have a simple network setup at home, nothing special at all just a main pc (downloading box) and a HTPC which also acts as storage.

Now i know nothing about network speeds so i dont know what i should have expected but my setup seems a tad slow when transferring files between the main PC and the HTPC.

I should mention that although i have a wireless router the wireless features are actually disabled.

Everything is connected by Cat5e, the cable length between the Router and the HTPC is 25m and i have transfer speeds of approximately 11Mb/s....does this seem right?

oops, should have probably mentioned that both machines are running Windows 7 and are in the same homegroup etc.

Guessing that Tenda Router is only 10/100? I doubt you'd get a lot more speed out of it than that to be fair.

Depends what speed the hard drives are, the size of the files you are transferring, real-time anti virus, firewalls etc.

You could change to a 10/100/1000 router as the cable you have is up to the job, but I wouldnt expect miracles!

11Mbits/s or 11MBytes/s ?

11MB on a 100Mb link is fine. Upgrading to a gigabit network is fairly cheap and boosts speeds significantly - I get 100MB/s over mine. You dont need to change your router, just get a gigabit switch and connect both PC's and your current router to the new switch. Your built in LAN on your PC's should be gigabit already in any relatively modern motherboard, but you can buy gigabit PCI-E nics cheaply.
