This is roughly what i want performance wise:

Antec Nine Hundred Ultimate Gaming case
(£70.49)

Intel Core 2 DUO E6600 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.40GHz (1066FSB) - OEM
(£209.14)

Asus P5W DH Deluxe WiFi (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
(£152.74)

GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400C4 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2 Dual Channel Kit
(£176.24)

Tuniq Tower 120 CPU Cooler
(£34.06)

Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Music - OEM
(£52.29)

Corsair HX 520W ATX2.2 Modular SLI Compliant PSU (CMPSU-520HXUK)
(£72.84)

HIS ATI Radeon X1950 XT ICEQ 3 TURBO SILENT Heatpipe 256MB GDDR3 VIVO
(£199.74)

Total : £982.75

Can anyone suggest any alterations to the spec to reduce the price and still have similar performance?

Thanks, Sainte

You could probably drop the soundcard as unless you have a great speaker system you are unlikely to notice the difference from onboard sound. You could drop the graphics card to an X1950pro, apparantly you lose about 10% performance-wise but you could save around £50, I'd suggest you do a bit more research before considering this option though. :)

Personally i'd scrap that video card and buy a s/hand x1900xt 512mb for same money.

Think will see a lot of people selling theirs as we come closer and closer to DX10's release.

Think should also think about getting a bigger PSU in case want to go SLI/Xfire in future.

Yes, indeed scrap it. go for this! or i would anyway!

Gigabyte GA_965P_DS3 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
(£99.86)

Intel Core 2 DUO E6300 "LGA775 Allendale" 1.86GHz (1066FSB) - OEM
(£110.44)

OcUK 2GB (2x1GB) PC2-6400 800MHz DDR2 Dual Channel Kit
(£146.86)

Lian-Li PC-7 PLUS Aluminium Midi-Tower Case - Black
(£57.56)

Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro CPU Cooler (Socket 775)
(£16.44)

FSP Sparkle FX600-GLN Epsilon 600W ATX2.0 PSU
(£88.11)

BFG GeForce 8800 GTS 640MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail
(£299.61)

Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Music - OEM
(£52.29)

Total : £884.05

I think this would offer greater performance for £100 cheaper. You can easily overclock that 6300 to 2.8 with the OCUK ram, its extremely good value for money as its gauranteed to hit 400mhz! u could probably push it further with a bit of extra juice!

That would go nicely too, and is a fair bit cheaper, so you'd be able to upgrade your gfx in a years time with the money you've saved. The board isnt a great clocker, but will clock some, and is meant to be rock stable :D
