I've been using the SteelSeries Mouse for about 2 weeks now.It was bought for me as a present
First impressions were good. It's a larger than average mouse that would fit larger hands better than smaller ones.It has a sloping back rather than a raised one, more like a Logitech mouse rather than the hump-backed style of the Razer Diamonback. It's also a little lighter than my old razer diamondback. No driver cd was supplied, but you can download the software from steelseries themselves. Also of note is that because of the 2 buttons either side of the mouse wheel your fingers will be spread apart more than usual.
Within windows, the mouse tracks fast and true with options within the software to change polling rate and DPI values if needed. You also have the options to change the illumination (colour and pulse rate)
I play a reasonable amount of WoW..maybe 10-15 hours a week. How does the mouse perform? As a mouse,it performs well.I have had none of the button issues that some people have reported (sticking right - left click buttons).I use a few UI addons (as do most players) one of which is Bartender. The mouse software is next to useless with this addon as it doesnt allow for keymappings to be assigned to buttons on the mouse. So in order to use any of the 15 buttons this mouse offers I'll have to go back to a standard UI.
What is needed is a function similar to Uberoptions for Logitech mice..an ability to map keyboard keys to the mouse buttons.A massively simple solution that has yet to be implemented.
This could have been the ultimate mouse for WoW users (I know that 6 thumb buttons would have given me the edge in PvP) but it simply isn't.Poorly designed software lets it down.So much so that I'll be buying a Logitech mouse, purely for the excellent software support.
