My Surface for Windows RT Review

Is there awin8.1 release confrence scheduled at all.
Although just put a large payment down on something else, which was meant to be for a tablet.
So it might have to be a cheap rt/atom rather than the pro I wanted.

I'm dead happy with my RT

The things I miss from it..

winamp
notepad2
paint.net

The rest is covered

tbh I tihnk now that the price has come down to what it should have been to start with the RT's a decent buy given it comes with office, shame the app store is still a bit lacking....

But we're a year on.
200 quid gets you a Nexus 7 which dominates the Surface all over in spec and apps.

Yeah we are a year on, which is what makes the appstore even more woeful...
And yes you can get an N7 for £200, we're talking about a 10" tablet though not a 7"...

Second generation Surfaces are well and truly on the way.

It would have been fun to review the second gen but I'm not sure whether I'd buy one, for a couple of reasons. I'm thinking about replacing my MacBook Pro with something more powerful, so that puts me in the market for an ultrabook rather than a tablet. And the second reason is I'm actually still quite happy with the Surface RT and don't see the need to replace it so soon. :)

Id be waiting to see what Nokia bring to the table as well for RT, still really happy with my Surface though and if 8.1 brings along some performance gains I may not feel the need to get a newer one.

Yep would love a lumia, isn't their event similar time, end of September.
However built in kickstand is super appealing and I can't see lumia having one.

Yea, I think that could be reserved just for the 1520, but their was some "leaked" tablet images from Nokia, so theirs a maybe on that.

The 8.1 preview does actually give it a slightly more responsive feel, but don't get your hopes up because it isn't dramatic. Ironically the better side by side stuff actually highlights the need for a bit more grunt since you find yourself multitasking more often (or at least I do)

You're right about the Nokia RT tablets though, if they can come in at a good price it will be worth a look. It may even offer a USP over the Surface if it comes with mobile broadband capability.

Surface will come with mobile broadband as it is integrated in both the tegra 4 and the SD800, so would be stupid not to include it. Especially as its been one of the many complaints about hardware.

Performance gains might be a bit strong, perhaps help iron some of the crashing bugs in IE, and a new lease of life with the newer options.
