My system has gone nuts?!

Hey

Basically I have just received my new 4870 512MB from OcUK. I uninstalled the 3850 drivers and downloaded the most recent 4870 drivers from the AMD website before I installed it. I uninstalled my old GPU and installed he 4870, using two 6-pin connectors from my PSU (Cooler Master Real Power 520W modular).

I turned my system on and it started up normally, but then after about 5 minutes my screen just went black and it looked like my system was still switched on. So I restarted the computer and now it gets to the Windows XP loading screen and then after that just before it gets to the 'Welcome to Windows - Select User' screen it goes black again with the computer still switched on. I have tried reseating the card, making sure all the power connectors are connected and there are no problems there. I have reinstalled my 3850 now and when my system switched on it said 'Windows has recovered from a serious error' and for a minute with the 3850 installed my screen was acting weird, changing resolutions for a second then flickering back to 640x480 (with no drivers currently installed for a GPU). But at the moment it seems to be working ok again.

Does anyone have any idea what the heck is going on with my computer?

Thanks for your help.

No, with the old card it starts up fine, the only problems with the old card are the changing of resolutions that happened (and when that happened I thought the screen was going to go to black again). But it seems to be working ok now (with the old card - 3850 256MB).
