Hey guys, recently bought a system from OCUK spec is:

FX 8120 @ 3.10 GHZ OC'd to 3.65 by ocuk
8 gigs ram
MSI 990FXA-GD80
GTX 680

So today i turn on my PC and my factory OC has gone! It's back to 3.10GHZ?! Can anyone explain whats happened? :(

So where it says Core Speed in CPU-Z it shows 3.1Ghz, it also shows this under load (running Prime95 for example)?

CPU-Z when running prime 95:

Core speed 3100MHZ

Multiplier x15.5

bus speed 200 MHZ

My problem is the system is only 3 days old and up unti before it always read my base clock as 3.65GHZ. Now it's base clock seems to of been reset somehow to how it comes out of the box at 3.10.

Have you cleared CMOS, there's a fiddle little switch on the backplate of more than a few MOBOs, if you've touched that it would clear your OC.

Good news, Went into the BIOS and found the save profile from when it was shipped. Now back to good ol' 3.65GHZ :) although it doesnt answer the question of how it get changed in the first place...

IS there a profile saved in the CMOS (BIOS) that will restore the OC?

Haha excellent timing :P Do you know of any reason that might of happened? I've never come across a computer to just loose its OC like that... especially considering it's a very mild OC.

Dodgy battery?

You have somehow hit a ClearCMOS button somewhere on the board if it has one?

If it is the battery, then they can be got from a supermarket for a £ or two.

Well i just powered off the system, turned it off at the wall, waited 5 mins then held down the power button to drain any remaining volts from the PSU then left it for another 10 mins (just to be sure) powered it back on and my OC is still saved. must have hit cmos by accident?! haha.

Cheers for the help guys x

My mobo loses it's OC all the time, well, it disables it, flick it back on in the bios and all is fine, never got to the bottom of it either.

My gigabyte board does this regularly even on a fresh battery. Its a very buggy board. Maybe a little gremlin in yours? Worth checking the manufacturer's forum.
