Hello everyone,
So I'm in a dilemma. My computer seems to crash at times when I'm gaming, especially with BF4. With the GPU setup I've got I wouldn't expect the graphics to be the problem, so now I need some more experienced advice and was told that this is the place to get it.

Let's start with telling you what my system consists of:

----------------

Intel i7 930 [email protected] (used to be oc at 4.2GHz but gradually had to lower it due to instability)

CPU cooler: Corsair H50 liquid cooler in pull-push.

Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit

Storage: Main/boot - OCZ Revodrive 3 240GB PCIe SSD,
2nd drive - Seagate 3TB 3.5" ST3000DM001 Barracuda SATA III 7200rpm

Motherboard: Asus P6T

RAM: Kingston HyperX DDR3 1333MHz 6x2GB (12GB)

Graphics: MSI Radeon HD6990 & XFX ATI Radeon HD6970

Monitor: 24" Asus ProArt 1920x1200

Case: Thermaltake Level 10 GT white

PSU: Thermaltake Toughpower XT 875W

-----------------

So as you can see some of my hardware is a bit dated. I was thinking of upgrading the motherboard, which would lead me to upgrade my CPU as well. I just hope that I won't have to change my RAM as well, unless you think it would be necessary or extremely beneficial. So i need your suggestions and advice on what needs to be changed in my system to be more future proof and to enjoy high performance gaming on BF4 on ultra settings (currently I've everything on ultra apart from AAA and some other settings, so I'm getting 40FPS+). Also do you think I should keep my GPU setup or sell the hd6990 & hd6970 for a newer single GPU or even two newer GPUs? And if you suggest I do need to upgrade certain hardware then should I stick to Win 7 or should I move to Win 8.1?

Your advice is much appreciated.

Could try lowering you CPU clock again, to rule out the CPU. BF4 is pretty buggy still, but its also pretty CPU demanding, combined with that much GPU grunt you'll be pushing the CPU quite hard.

If you upgrade though, keeping the ram will be fine.

Thanks for the swift input guys. Yeah I understand BF4 is still buggy, you'd think that they would have learned their lesson from previous releases.
I don't know if lowering the CPU clock would make much difference, but worth trying to rule it out. I think it's got to do with my GPUs overheating, especially the primary hd6990. The two cards are so close together that there isn't much breathing space for the hd6990, especially for one of its GPUs, which reaches 100 deg C. So that is why I get the crash, I think. So what I'm thinking is to perhaps upgrade to a better motherboard which might have the PCIe slots positioned better and more apart to allow the breathing/ventilation. And then might as well upgrade to newer and better CPU. What do you think?
