Hey everybody

Just getting into pc gaming and have a system on order. still a little unsure on overclocking but ive put the spec below. What speeds should be easily obtain with this set up? or anything i should change? any input would be great cheers:D

750 GB SATA-II HDD UDMA 300 7200 16MB
ATI Radeon HD 5870 VaporX - 2 GB - 2xDVI/HDMI/DP (Sapphire)
Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64 BIT (Genuine DVD & COA Included)
Corsair Hydro Series H50 V2 (Advanced Liquid Cooling)
Motherboard Integrated 7.1 Sound
10 X USB 2.0 Ports 2x USB 3.0
Corsair 6GB (3x2GB) XMS3 1600MHz - Lifetime Warranty (DDR3)
Intel Core i7 920 D0 (4 x 2.66GHz) 8 MB 4.8GT/s
Corsair 850W (CMPSU-850TXUK)
1 Port Firewire IEEE 1394 (Built In)
Antec Twelve Hundred Black
Samsung (SH-S223L) DVD +/- RW 24x - Black - Lightscribe (SATA)
Asus Rampage III Extreme ROG (Intel X58)

I thought the i7 920 were phased out now. With the 920 you would expect to overclock to 4Ghz. With it's replacement, the i7 930 you'd expect 4.2Ghz.

Looks like a nice setup.

You didnt actually mention what motherboard you chose? However with a 920 DO 4GHz should be very acheivable.

Asus Rampage III Extreme ROG (Intel X58) at the bottom of my list

I dont wanna go as high as 4ghz was looking at 3.6, ive never done this so im pretty nervous as i dont wanna kill it!

I'm in the same boat, just gotta get up the courage to give it a try! (I tried once, bluscreened and I put it back to basic lol, haven't tried again yet :P)

You could probably achieve 3.6GHz with little to none voltage adjustments, 4GHz shouldn't be a problem too. Have a read through some of the hundreds overclocking guides over the Internet and with some basic knowledge, start ocing in small steps. The very best way to learn is to try it yourself.
