just built a new rig and it was the first time ive applyed my own thermal paste. the cooler is a titan fern evo. What do you guys think of these Idle Temps for my 950 Note: there is no side or front panels on the case at the moment, so when i put them back on they could rise slighty. there is x2 120mm fans on 1 of the side panels so that will help when all panels are back on. case is the nzxt phantom.

il post some load temps when i get to it :)

Dont look too bad. Give it a blast of prime95 or OCCT and monitor temps whilst either are running. That'll give you a better idea whether their ok or not.

i7 920@ stock mine idles about 30-35 with titan fenrir. (not evo model tho)

yeah its stock clocks. the rear 120mm and roof 200mm are on lowest setting on the fan controller, so maybe they could knock a degree or 2 off when they r increased. Ill install the programs you guys said and give it a go.

is there a general rule of thumb for temps, i have a q6600, what temps should i be aiming for for an overclock to 3.6ghz, sorry if im hijacking your thread op:(

how do these look, its only been running about 10mins tho. the 950 is @ stock and i took that screeny when the temps wer at the peak. they drop and hover around 57 58 a lot.

left it running for 1 hour and the highest temp was 65 on core 0 and the average of the 4 cores was 63, so it stayed basically the same after an hour. that sound ok guys?

All good mate you are good to go. Well done on your first thermal paste application.

im downloading 3dmark vantage and pcmark vantage now to give them a try. ill get around to the others aswell.

im trying to get my ram to run at stock 1600mhz because its running under it at the moment. a guy just told me wot to do to get it to stock in the AI Tweaker or sumthing. hope i dont blow anything up :(

That will certainly give you an idea if your system is rock solid or not I guess.

To get your ram to run at the frequency you want them too it is quite simple, with your current set-up and temperatures just select the XMP profile and let it do the business.

Once you have that happening run prime for a bit and check out your temps under load. They should not be altered at all or very little. Once that is confirmed you can start (if you want) to dial back some of the voltages that are being used on Auto. It is not a big deal if you do not do so, as the speed step and all the other on board CPU management stuff will give you energy saving too.

Basically it is that simple. :)

Post your Vantage 3Dmark Performance score here and I will do a run later tomorrow and see how I compare. Same CPU of course.

wow i didnt think you had to buy 3DMark. i though it was free

anyway i got a free trial to run 1 test lol. I dont know if its a good score for a stock 950 and GTX470 so any feedback is super :D

i got my ram to run at stock now thanks to a guy in another thread.
the 800 gets multiplyed by the fsb which is 2? makes it 1600mhz?

Do not worry much about idle temps, my i7 920 at 4ghz idles 43-45c on each core max though when i play games they hit around 60-62c max.

Your Prime temps seem fine given the voltage used too but you got the 140mm fan install at the front on the Phantom? that will help quite a bit to be honest you should get all the optional fans from NZXT for really good cooling.

Also use MX-3 or MX-4 paste if you haven't as they help with load temps.

Do a run of a game like Blackops or something with hwmonitor minimized in background then check temps after, if they are around 50-60c on each core or so max then that's fine for stock on your cpu.(since you voltage is already near 4ghz amount i am guessing it will only be about 10c more or so at that speed, well mine was anyway and also ramp the fans to max everywhere.)

I would not worry about temps any more mate. Just go forth and play the game. You will certainly know quick enough if the temps are way out of line. But they are not. Yeah I saw that you had two threads going and were sorted after I had posted. ;)

Now to the joys of Vantage. Yeah you pay for the whole thing. I have a few spare pro licenses that came with motherboards but no idea how to pass one on to you mate.

That score is fine, and you do have PhysX enabled so all is good.

I will post a run here later after football today to compare with yours. Enjoy the gaming. :D
