Well, i bought myself a Steam Link.... As I cam currently attemping (and some would say failing) to learn how to do videos I thought I would try and do a video unboxing/review/overview type thing.

already spotted a lot of things wrong with the video, for instance, not sure why youtube have added the black bars, im guessing i rendered the video the wrong res or something? also need to figure out how to do things so they stay in focus....

but yeh, here is the video regardless!

Just saw/commented on this on your FB page :) You using sony vegas? I recall saying in another thread somewhere i know a bit with that software and happy to give you a hand so you have videos that match the quality of your work :)

My free trial with Premiere Pro is about to end, & although I really like it, the monthly subscription puts me off somewhat. What plan did you choose?

Nice review btw. Have a like. :)

I just got the single app annual plan paid monthly, i think it is 17.25 a month or something, which is steep. but hopefully it will pay for itself if i can get into them .

Thanks for the like buddy, hopefully with input from people telling me my faults, and helping me out where i struggle i can get some nice videos, it seems a waste me getting hundreds of products a year which i use for my builds, but not showing them off.

You're welcome. If truth be told, until I saw your video I didn't really know what 'Steam Link' was. :o I think I was confusing it with their console or something, so I've learned something there. :)

With regards to the monthly plans, I'll have to take a look. I think the one you mention is about the most I'd want to pay, though I'd much rather they just let you buy it outright.

Liked it. Informative & not repetitive. Focus could be better at times as you mention. Could this be a camera setting?

yeah the plans are pricey, and you can pay yearly i believe, but that is far too much for me in one go =(

Not sure tbh, I am asking the guys in the photography section as i want to get that sorted asap, they have given me some ideas though so hopefully i can get that better :D Thanks for the watch :D

If anyone knows how to do the posh intro things, please let me know also, I will pay in sexual favours, hardware or even monies :D

good first attempt.

couple of things though

1) do the audio as a separate voice over. It will make the audio clearer

2) write a script. it doesn't have to be a full one it can just be notes.

keep up the good work

Looked a little blury too probably beyond that of the camera, check the youtube recommendations for codecs and birate when you check on the resolution too. Best case is when they don't have to re-encode it on their servers.

Most of the video is actually a voice over haha, i didn't realise that my bloody washing machine had kicked in and that was audiable, so the first bit (the unboxing) is proper audio, the rest is voice over. i did lower the volume of the second bits though as it sounded silly at first with the first part at one level then the second part way louder.

Script was something i was actually wondering about, I think far to far ahead when talking and often say what I am intending to say further down the line. A script, or pointers would certainly stop this, but I also find that I do spot a lot of information as I go and I don't want to be restricted too much. I will certainly find a happy medium though. I need to get something down to keep me on the straight and narrow, especially when I get into hardware, some of the spec is hard to remember as it is :D

Yeh, my manual focus was off for a lot of it and I didn't notice until after, I am trying to figure that out. Codecs and bitrate I shall check into, as well as the resolution, I didn't realise that when I ran it through premiere it would change what the camera set tbh (noob mistake I know) and it did a lot of weird stuff (added black bars and what not). If I upload without any edits youtube is fine :D

I did this one early this morning and It is getting better slowly.

You may find this useful. Someone posted it for me a few weeks back. I wouldn't take it as 'set in stone', though it might answer some queries you may have. There's a good few notes provided there that I don't know anything about yet.

Here's a couple of other videos that might help, though Gopher doesn't use Premiere Pro in these. He uses a much higher bit rate, too.

aaah, spot on! thank you very much, I was just searching for that kind of information!

*edit*

just noticed you added the videos, I will watch these later, just about to eat! thanks dude :)

Great review, though I can't really comment on the video technology. I'm really tehmpted by the Steam Link, though I'm not sure my TV or wifi connection is up to it...

Good review.

Still don't understand why Steam haven't added streaming functionality into their mobile application.
