Just finished swapping over the case on my 360. I know its not techinically a 'mod' and its a very marmite change to the console but i like it!

Unfortunately i went for the cheapo fake copy of the fake copy cases, but it comes with a clear dvd-drive cover aswell which i wanted.
Its not a bang on fit, and required some chris1712 bodging but its on now, its certainly a case of if i need to open it again, im gonna have to break it.

Anyhoo, heres some pics. lol.

Had some trouble with the clear dvd bezel they provide, the front facia they provide is not a great fit, combined with not a great fitting dvd bezel = lose. So the chrome ones on there for the moment, looks a bit better that way anyway imo.

Tada.

I'd love to do that to my 360 but don't want to remove the metal plate.

I was slightly concerned about it, but figured I've been lucky enough to have a launch console not explode on me yet so I'm just gonna hope it stays a bti longer. The shield was also on the xbox 1 and i removed it with a similiar (chrome) mod on that and it was fine for, well 3 years or so now.

I might have a fiddle with the case later as the fit on the backplate is less than great, but i think it might just be the naffness of the manufacture.

Was gonna get a black knight case for mine, considering just trading it in for an elite when thats available. :)

Yeah im thinking what colour to spray my old case now. I would go with black if it wasnt for the elite coming out. Im trying to think how a metallic orange would look..... like Focus ST orange? Don't really wanna go with green as i did that on one of my old xbox' and its a bit boring.

EDIT: Just remembered the metal shielding, on the xbox 1 anyway was to stop interference from things like mobiles etc. Not for heat dissipation, its a naff piece of foil so it does very very little for heat.

They're very different beasts though. I've done all the cooling mods on mine so a clear case would look quite poor on my 360.

What have you done other than AS5/Bolts/Fans? Its gonna look pretty much the same i would imagine, I will probably get talismoons in there on payday, i have whacked some blue LEDS in there but you can't really see them until its plenty dark, will probably end up with some cathodes in there.

I guess if you've whacked some card on the wind tunnel that would look pretty lame :p, saying that its usually hidden under the dvd drive anywa, the cpu shroud is a decent enough fit.

AS5
XClamp replacement
Talismoon fans sans crappy LEDs
Sealed the edges of the air duct (wind tunnel? lol!)
Internal divider in the duct
thin bright orange plastic sheet sealed to the top of the CPU heatsink (This made the biggest difference to temps)
a similar sheet on half of the GPU heatsink
3 * 5mm*10mm foam eliminating Disc scratching.

None of that makes a fatty bom batty difference to how it looks though, so you'd end up with a similiar look to mine. Do you have a temp probe in there? Or just going on feeling exhaust temps as to whether it made a difference? I have AS5'd and will do fans, but cba with shroud messing especially with the el cheapo case on there now.

EDIT: oh yeah i call it the wind tunnel as thats whats referred to in BTX cases and my old ideq so it kinda stuck.

Cool, now you can see the drive scratching your discs :p

I prefer the standard look tbh, but it looks ok.

I understand its a very marmite mod, but at the moment im liking it. I will probably chop and change between this and whatever i mod the original to, i cant see this case lasting to long if im lugging it to lans etc. over summer, the quality is not fantastic!

I like it, I'd probably do it if the case was better quality.

The XCM case, is apparently plenty good quality, and is a frosted finish. I went for the cheapo one and crossed my fingers basicaly. The cheaper one includes the clear dvd drive cover so i can see the disc, and a clear wind tunnel. You can get these bits seperate with the XCM case but it comes to twice as much, and as im fapping poor atm i just tried my luck with el cheapo.

Personally I think it looks awful and completely tacky - but its your opinion that counts I guess! :p

Yeah i knew i'd get this reaction so i dont really mind :p. I'm still not sure if i really *like* it, i think its just cos i was bored really!

Ive debated modding mine to some extent, but as standard it fits in perfectly with my Wii and Sky+ box so I probably wont bother.

Anyway, Ive got my finigers crossed for its reliability for you ;)

Thanks :D , its been out of warranty for over a year now anyway. Thats not to say i dont want it to not break though! Wow, how many negatives in that sentence. Still makes sense, honest.

If it does pack in at some point, I'll hopefully be able to sell it for more to some idiot who thinks its an ultra rare spec ed :p/

Well I want clear side grills, dvd cover and tray.

Yeah, XCM case will get you the decent case and sides, but all the dvd covers i've seen (other than home made mods) have been naff window styles. Clear tray would be interesting, after taking my drive apart today and feeling how weak the normal tray is i think a clear one might be a bit to poor. You could quite easily bodge your own dvd spindle out of some clear plastic tbh, with some good old fashioned melting and bending here and there you could get it pretty secure im sure.

Removing the Inner metal case (top section) would open the board to more airflow as the holes in the metal case are quite small.

Removing the outer shell is just a matter of popping the 3 front clips and just peeling the two sections apart yes? I broke the rear tabs on my last 360 mod dont really want to do it again.

Good point, might make a slight difference then. The shell removes the same way yes, you must have tried really hard to break the rear tabs on the official case i found them very strong!

I always liked the look of the original Xbox, I'm odd :).

Its a tank of a console, well its smaller than the PS3!! It seemed to me, to be less of a toy than other consoles, and more of a tool.

Probably played on the xbox more than any other console, especially homebrew etc. being so well made on it. Emulators galore.
