My Transparent 360 mod!!

AS5
XClamp replacement
Talismoon fans sans crappy LEDs
Sealed the edges of the air duct (wind tunnel? lol!)
Internal divider in the duct
thin bright orange plastic sheet sealed to the top of the CPU heatsink (This made the biggest difference to temps)
a similar sheet on half of the GPU heatsink
3 * 5mm*10mm foam eliminating Disc scratching.

None of that makes a fatty bom batty difference to how it looks though, so you'd end up with a similiar look to mine. Do you have a temp probe in there? Or just going on feeling exhaust temps as to whether it made a difference? I have AS5'd and will do fans, but cba with shroud messing especially with the el cheapo case on there now.

EDIT: oh yeah i call it the wind tunnel as thats whats referred to in BTX cases and my old ideq so it kinda stuck.

It would look the same with bright orange bits inside :p

Edit: And bright red sata cables coiled up.

I fail to see how a < 1mm thick piece of metal can dissipate heat to the extent of it being essential to the consoles survival.

:edit: Forgot to mention that I've been here while he's been doing this. It is pretty damn cheap and nasty but does the job. Being able to see the disc spinning up is rather ace.

Thickness reduces heat transfer, so if it was thicker, it would be even less effective

It's not about heat transfer, it's about dissipation. To be good at dissipating the heat it would need to have a high surface area which it really doesn't.

I've not seen the plate in question but I agree, it would need a large surface area.
That would mainly depend on length and breadth in that situation tho

Surface area is exactly that, the area on the outside. Thickness won't make any real difference to surface around 1mm.

I understand that, my point wasn't that it was too thin to do anything, but that it was simply a small piece of metal that can't by any stretch of the imagination be of life threatening importance to a console if it is removed.

Looks excellent, nice work on the mod. Most peeps wont touch them because of the warranty but pants to that. I bet it runs a lot cooler as well now :)

Think it looks brilliant tbh! I'll most prolly do something similar as my launch day one is still going strong and will prolly be replaced by a 'Elite' soon.

*repeatedly hits head on desk*

Anyway, on another point, I have no idea how much your 360 needs cooling as they were not all created equally so you will probably be fine.

Cooling wont be affected, theres still a case of plastic around it!

Destroying warranty stickers is my favourite hobby, dont think I've owned anything gadgety that i havent opened! Other than my macbook, but thats because if i break it i wouldnt know how to fix it! I have an unholy urge to open anything i buy usually the day i get it  . My 360 lasted about 3 months at least before i opened it mind.

Its a dead easy mod to do, i wouldnt even consider it a mod as i didnt really do/make/customize anything! Once i have some spare cash i will tackle my old white case, im really feeling an orange/black theme but not 100% yet.

EDIT: Oh snap, Zefan forgot to log out on my laptop! Your sigs are safe, for now.

Cool, now you can see the drive scratching your discs :p

I prefer the standard look tbh, but it looks ok.

I understand its a very marmite mod, but at the moment im liking it. I will probably chop and change between this and whatever i mod the original to, i cant see this case lasting to long if im lugging it to lans etc. over summer, the quality is not fantastic!

I like it, I'd probably do it if the case was better quality.

The XCM case, is apparently plenty good quality, and is a frosted finish. I went for the cheapo one and crossed my fingers basicaly. The cheaper one includes the clear dvd drive cover so i can see the disc, and a clear wind tunnel. You can get these bits seperate with the XCM case but it comes to twice as much, and as im fapping poor atm i just tried my luck with el cheapo.

Personally I think it looks awful and completely tacky - but its your opinion that counts I guess! :p

Yeah i knew i'd get this reaction so i dont really mind :p. I'm still not sure if i really *like* it, i think its just cos i was bored really!
