My Transparent 360 mod!!

Ive debated modding mine to some extent, but as standard it fits in perfectly with my Wii and Sky+ box so I probably wont bother.

Anyway, Ive got my finigers crossed for its reliability for you ;)

The XCM case, is apparently plenty good quality, and is a frosted finish. I went for the cheapo one and crossed my fingers basicaly. The cheaper one includes the clear dvd drive cover so i can see the disc, and a clear wind tunnel. You can get these bits seperate with the XCM case but it comes to twice as much, and as im fapping poor atm i just tried my luck with el cheapo.
Well I want clear side grills, dvd cover and tray.

Thanks :D , its been out of warranty for over a year now anyway. Thats not to say i dont want it to not break though! Wow, how many negatives in that sentence. Still makes sense, honest.

If it does pack in at some point, I'll hopefully be able to sell it for more to some idiot who thinks its an ultra rare spec ed :p/

Yeah, XCM case will get you the decent case and sides, but all the dvd covers i've seen (other than home made mods) have been naff window styles. Clear tray would be interesting, after taking my drive apart today and feeling how weak the normal tray is i think a clear one might be a bit to poor. You could quite easily bodge your own dvd spindle out of some clear plastic tbh, with some good old fashioned melting and bending here and there you could get it pretty secure im sure.

Do you know where I can source a transparent DVD lid and air duct from?

Found some pics of my old xbox on an old backup cd, enjoy :D .

Again, sure some people will hate this.

Doesn't look anywhere near as good there as it does in the flesh. I think the atmosphere of the lights is sort of lost.

Cooling wont be affected, theres still a case of plastic around it!

Removing the Inner metal case (top section) would open the board to more airflow as the holes in the metal case are quite small.

Removing the outer shell is just a matter of popping the 3 front clips and just peeling the two sections apart yes? I broke the rear tabs on my last 360 mod dont really want to do it again.

Good point, might make a slight difference then. The shell removes the same way yes, you must have tried really hard to break the rear tabs on the official case i found them very strong!

I always liked the look of the original Xbox, I'm odd :).

Its a tank of a console, well its smaller than the PS3!! It seemed to me, to be less of a toy than other consoles, and more of a tool.

Probably played on the xbox more than any other console, especially homebrew etc. being so well made on it. Emulators galore.

Not my cuppa, i found the whole case modding thing even on PCs with neon etc quickly passed for me. Spent a fortune on it too with my old Coolermaster PC case.

Set of Christmas tree lights and your sorted. ;)

I understand that, my point wasn't that it was too thin to do anything, but that it was simply a small piece of metal that can't by any stretch of the imagination be of life threatening importance to a console if it is removed.

Consoles used to rely on a thin piece of metal exactly like you find in the 360, only with thermal pads in the areas for the gpu, ram cpu etc, for their entire cooling system.

The dreamcast is the last console I can think of that used a thin metal plate for it's cooling.

Thank you, I really couldn't be bothered going into it. Also, the entire top surface of the CPU heat sink makes contact with the metal plate, providing good heat transfer and ensuring enough pressure is provided to make good contact between the heat sink and the CPU. Like I said though we have no idea if this was intentional or if it's important for cooling.
