My Troubles Tonight...

Is there any reason that it should be near enough impossible to remove the processor from my motherboard?

Obviously the heatsink and fan removed, and pulled up the little release bar, and... nothing.

It actually seems as though its been glued in place. I obviously didn't want to be too rough with it, but I pulled, pushed, and wiggled etc, and nothing. It doesn't even budge.

Spec as per sig, but I've bought a phenom II 965, to replace the 9950. I'm obviously pretty gutted to have not been able to get it in and running.

To make matters worse, my PC will not boot at all with all my RAM in. I can use a max of 2 2GB cards out of the 4 I have.

Is there any way of verifying that RAM is what you paid for? I bought the whole system setup last june, (Not from OCuk, but not sure if I'm permitted by forum rules to mention the company's name??) and not really opened it up until tonight.

I've tried CPU-Z, and that doesn't give a model name or number? It's meant to be Samsung, but looks pretty unofficial having seen it properly for the first time. No branding other than a sticker that looks like I could have made it myself.

So yeah, thats my rant.

I'm not really sure what my next move is, but I'm sitting on a few hundred quid of purchases that I can't see myself using until I get a new MOBO and RAM...

Thanks...

In my experience the cpu should come out of the socket with hardly any force. Like you said something is not quite right there.

Sounds odd. I've had CPUs that didn't want to be separated from the heatsink but never one stuck on the socket.

Yeah, they just slot into the socket. Should require no force at all to remove them. Perhaps the plastic on the motherboard has melted around the pins and fused them together permanently somehow?

The work was done by a friend who works in the PC industry (with me peeking inquisitively over his shoulder) He has done many builds, so I'm sure he would have known. He also said that he'd never seen anything like it...

Spoke to my the company from whom I purchased it this morning, who said they'd do a free collection and inspection for me, so at least some good news...
