yeah theres a post on it somewhere!

that was about it running slow on an amd system :S no idea why mine is running fast.. i'll set it up to sync with servers.. that should sort it..

anyway i have a question, im currently running only 1 smp client as im getting those 1760 pointers which use about 90% of each cpu in ubuntu,

so is it really worth running a second client and almost doubleing my time it takes to complete a WU?

advice??

thanks

Automatic sync is either not working or too infrequent for my liking. Any ideas on how to make it:

1) Sync more frequently with servers in list, or
2) Sync with windows. There's a service for this, no?

Which server did you select?

ntp2a.mcc.ac.uk (England, Europe)
ntp2b.mcc.ac.uk (England, Europe)

I have both of those ticked and no others and mine seems to be keeping time fine - not sure how often it does it but whenever I look it's the same as my windows clock which is synched weekly.

edit: worth pointing out I used to have some others ticked and it didn't seem to work well at all - all seems fine since though

Also is it an Intel with the fast clock or an AMD with the slow clock? :p

Has anybody tried to install Ubuntu on a C2D rig with a Ds3 and an X1950 Pro? I'm going to install the SMP client on one later today. I've had nothing but problems with a PD805 on a DS3 with an X800. I'm hoping the different graphics card will change my luck.

Nope. But I have it installed (VMware) on a DS3/E6300/X1600 combo, if that's any help?

Stan :)

This is AMD with a slow vmware clock.

I've selected those ones now, we'll see if it keeps up. I synched it manually when I last posted (18:29). It's now 23:09 and linux reckons 20:12, so it's really very slow indeed.

I'm prety sure I installed the patch but I'm not certain. Any way of checking? Where is the patch, link please? :)

Edit: it's on "BelowNormal" in windows so I can use the machine for other things at the same time. Might that have an effect?

anyone know if theres an easy way to copy the virtual machine to another PC?

gonna shove it on mums rig :D

Yip just copy its folder over to the new machines Virtual Machines folder.

I had to do it y-day after reinstalling XP.

Found a fix for the time thing. There's something for it in vmware tools. Rough guide (be prepared to research/ask more :) )

1. Fire up linux
2. In the vmware window, VM -> Install VMWare Tools
3. This mounts a cd which has the files on it. Unzip the archive to somewhere convenient.
4. Run vmware-install and use the defaults for everything (just hit enter).

Now here I borked it. I thought restarting would be a good idea, but was informed upon booting that the config for gnome was buggered. After giving it a bit of time it fixed itself though. I then ran usr/bin/vmware-toolbox and checked the auto time thingy on the first tab. Perfect sync now, and mouse is far more responsive.

Gonna need a linux pro to work out how to do things without messing gnome up. :)

I notice this but how do you upgrade?

I was wondering if I should scrub VMware 1.0.0 [don't know how I got the oldest version] & start again installing Edgy Eft - or should I wait until 7th April for Fairy Fawn:eek:

I just installed v1.0.2 over the top of v1.0.1 and it kept all my settings.

I did of course back-up my Ubuntu VM before doing so.
