Hey all,

I'm looking at ordering this little lot, what does everyone think? I don't game (The graphics card is purely so I can have lots of eye candy in Vista/Ubuntu). I'm quite keen on overclocking it so went for compnents that are cheap but should clock well - have I made the right choices? What kind of speeds can I expect?

-EDIT- Oopps, forgot the HSF:

Noctua NH-U12F

Thanks!

Everything looks good, just two things though.

Firstly, you might be happier with either a Samsung Spinpoint T or a Western Digital SE16 hard-drive since the seeks on the 7200.10's are rather loud.

Also, the 8500gt you've picked has ddr2 memory so there is unlikely to be very much overclocking headroom (if we think back to the last generation, it was the 7300GTs equipped with ddr3 that were little pocket rockets). To that end, you might get more value out of ATI's Radeon 2400xt.

Thanks for the advice. Noise is a major concern for me so I think I'll switch to the Samsung HDD. Gonna stick with nVidia due to their excellen Linux support (Box will most likely run Ubuntu).

Go for a WD Caviar for a quiet HDD, apart from that its a good spec :)

I also agree with sticking with Nvidia for Ubuntu, I have struggled before with my X1900 and Xubuntu.
