I'm currently looking to upgrade my current system which i built around 2 years ago. As i've been 'out of the loop' for a while i thought i would ask here just to make sure i'm not making any big mistakes.
My current specs are:
Gigabyte GA-MA790XT-UD4P
OCZ Gold 4GB DDR3 PC3-10666C9 1333MHz
XFX ATI Radeon HD 4890
AMD Phenom II x2 550 BE
Western Digital 640~gb 7200rpm HDD
I mainly game, video edit etc, just to give you an idea of what the computer is used for. I am mainly looking to upgrade my CPU, memory and to add a SSD.
I have a few questions:
- Should my mobo be able to support two 4gb sticks of memory (i was looking at http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-290-CS), or would it be a better option to buy 8gb of slower ram to be able to use it in conjunction with my current 4gb sticks to have a total of 12gb (such as http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-098-KS&groupid=701&catid=8&subcat=1516). Do you reckon compromising on the speed (1600MHz vs 1333MHz) is acceptable for another 4gb of ram?
- As far as the SSD is concerned, am i correct in assuming that my mobo wont support a SATA 3 SSD such as http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-075-OC? If not i guess i'll be looking at something like http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-047-OC. Will there still be a major difference between my current 7200rpm HDD and the SATA 2 SSD, even though the r/w speeds are around half that of the SATA 3 SSD?
Also, as a replacement for my CPU i was looking at the 1090T (http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-266-AM).
If anyone has any experience with these parts or can suggest anything else, it would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
Doug.
