My UPS tried to explode!!

I often see UPS batteries like that, it's not uncommon. Nothing to worry about, typically happens due to overheating / age and being lead acid batteries.

As for the Warranty, I very much doubt batteries would be covered unless under 12 months old, due to being classed as a consumable.

6 month warranty is usual for batteries - not seen many retail ones go like that myself tho your right lead acid batteries especially with large changes to ambient temperature can go like that.

I see this all the time, sealed lead acid batteries last around 4-5 years (sometimes longer), known as "cooking", I've seen far worse however, batteries that have swollen to about twice their size. (ohh I install intruder and fire alarms)
